EMPLOYEE JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Housekeeper/Janitor FLSA: Exempt
Supervisor: Administrator

Community House is seeking to hire a Full-Time Housekeeper/Janitor for day shift. This position serves as overall support around the facility, the resident rooms and grounds of the building.
Current available shift is: Monday - Friday
This position provides clean and sanitary surroundings for the residents and employees at a busy residential home for adults with mental and physical disabilities. The housekeeper promotes sanitary conditions which prevent the spread of infection, odors and bed bugs. The housekeeper must follow the required procedures for handling, cleaning, disposing, or moving of objects/materials and/or the clean-up of blood, infectious materials, or body fluids containing blood in accordance with the OSHA Bloodborne Pathogen Standard. Caregivers are crucial members of Community House Residential staff teams.
Job Duties:
- Operates various cleaning equipment, such as vacuums, polishers, buffers, etc.
- Maintain facility in a sanitary and infection-free condition through washing, cleaning and replacement of equipment and furnishings.
- Responsible for disposal of trash, waste, and other disposable materials.
- Must handle various cleaning solvents, chemicals, etc. Must comply with all regulations such as OSHA, EPA, State Health Department, etc.
- Empty trash containers.
- Search for bed bugs inside the facility and resident rooms. Treat as needed, including laundering the items in their rooms.
- Mop floors in rooms, bathrooms, corridor floors, lobby, and dining areas.
- Report any needed repairs immediately to supervisor (such as leaky faucets or toilets, loose tile, broken window panes, missing nuts or screws, beds needing repair, etc.).
Essential Job Duties:
- Ability to work non-traditional schedule as required by the residential facility, including holidays as assigned.
- Provide immediate crisis intervention and resolution as needed.
- Maintain resident and staff confidentiality at all times.
- Make sure incoming telephone calls are answered.
- Have legible handwriting.
- Be able to do simple mathematics.
- Be able to read and comprehend client charts.
- Supervise residents taking medications, visually making sure that they are taking correct doses at appropriate times.
Job Requirements:
- Must have at least a HS Diploma or have passed GED.
- Will need to obtain two separate tuberculosis tests (one before first shift).
- Agree to permit State Patrol Background Check.
- Be free of substance abuse.
- A working knowledge and adherence to all agency policies and procedures.
Experience working with people who have a diagnosis of mental illness preferred, or related social service experience and/or ability to acquire specialized training, to work with our target population. Ability to work both independently and as a team.
Physical Requirements: This position demands good physical and mental health. The housekeeper will be required to lift, carry, walk, sit, push, and pull.
