Part Time. Days – 6:00AM – 2:00PM or 7:00AM – 3:00PM. Weekend Holiday rotations are required.
SUMMARY: Performs housekeeping and laundry duties in a manner that protects the health and safety of the patients, visitors, and staff. Does related work as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Some of the specific duties performed may vary by shift, depending on the individual’s particular assignment on that day. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.
- Cleans, disinfects according to International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Class 8 and ISO Class 8 Cleanroom in accordance with policy, documents cleaning and disinfection.
- Utilizes established infection control and standard precaution techniques in the performance of all duties; Cleans surfaces and fixtures throughout the facility according to established policies and procedures.
- Empties waste baskets. Collects recyclables.
- Collects medical waste. Prepares cleaning equipment for isolation.
- Maintains closets, carts, linen, trash and medical waste storage areas, bins, and equipment in a safe, clean, and orderly condition. Damp dusts furniture, shelves, windowsills, counter tops, TV's, tops of doors, and cupboards. Washes walls and doors.
- Responsible for ordering linen for Bertrand Chaffee Hospital and Jennie B. Richmond Nursing Home. Distributes clean linen and laundry throughout the facilities. Responsible for collection of soiled linen and laundry. Washes articles for other departments.
- Maintains stock levels for each department. Replenishes paper towel holders, roll tissue, paper cups, liquid soap dispensers; Dusts and mops all floors according to established procedures; Cleans baseboards.
- Prepares weekly/monthly reports.
- Performs second round check of above duties before leaving for the day to ensure cleanliness and adequate levels are being met.
- May operate floor buffer and carpet extractor.
- The individual in this position should maintain a quiet, conscientious, and pleasant work environment that contributes towards the hospital and nursing homes goals of providing good patient care.
- Reports willful or inadvertent potentially fraudulent activity to management or the Corporate Compliance Officer.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS -
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High School diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) required.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must stay current with the yearly cleaning certification for the ISO-Class 8 Ante Room and ISO Class 7 Cleanroom Sanitation. This certification is instructed by Bertrand Chaffee Hospital’s Director of Pharmacy.
Must be able to pass an ISO Class 8 Anteroom and ISO Class 7 Cleanroom Sanitation Assessment as required by the sections of United States Pharmacopeia Chapter <797> involving environmental standards for disinfecting and cleaning ISO Class 7 and ISO Class 8 Cleanrooms.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The associate is occasionally required to sit and climb a step ladder or balance. The associate must occasionally lift 25-50 pounds and/or push/pull up to 150-250 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The associate is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
