Housing Specialist Job at Southeast Kansas Mental Health Center
Southeast Kansas Mental Health Center is looking to fill 4 positions for a qualified Housing Specialist.
Locations available: Allen County, Anderson County, Woodson County, and Neosho County.
TITLE OF POSITION: Housing Specialist
QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent. Degree in human services, social work, or related field preferred. Equivalent years of service and/or certifications in related field may be substituted. Must pass KBI, DCF child & adult abuse registry, motor vehicle screen, and background checks. Must have reliable and insured transportation.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Respectful, supportive, and empathic ability to understand and work with the mentally ill.
- Team player and supportive working relationships with coworkers and community partners.
- Collaborate effectively with consumer's natural and community resources.
- Proficient with computers and word processing.
- Ability to work independently in the community as well as a productive part of the team.
NUMBER OF HOURS PER WEEK: Regular full-time position
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Housing Specialist with work closely with community organizations, government agencies, and property owners to source the means and negotiate terms that enable clients to rent suitable housing.
- Assessing client eligibility and determining their housing and service needs.
- Assisting clients with the search for available properties and negotiating terms on behalf of clients.
- Ensuring clients understand their rights and responsibilities as tenants.
- Investigating and resolving client and landlord issues.
- Providing clients with information and referring them to additional support programs or services.
- Preparing and maintaining daily logs, records, activity documentation, and reports.
- Understanding and adhering to program rules and restrictions.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor or the Chief Executive Officer.

SALARY: Hourly Wage
SUPERVISED AND EVALUATED BY: Director of Adult Services
