Instrumentation and Electrical Technicians (I&E Technicians)
install, maintain, and repair the measurement and control instruments at the Alsip plant. This position provides instrument and electrical technical support to plant operations, capital projects, and outside contractors. This position reports directly to the Improvement Leader.


Job Responsibilities:


  • Install, maintain, and repair systems, plant equipment, pipeline, and compressor instrument and electrical equipment components with all job duties and responsibilities executed in a reliable and efficient manner while in compliance with procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair the plant’s PLC's, DCS system, and process safety controls.
  • Perform installation and repairs of electrical equipment requiring up to 480V– run conduit, pull wires, terminate in breaker panels, etc.
  • Contact contractors and vendors to order parts and coordinate repairs. Ensure proper parts are in use to repair equipment.
  • Perform Preventive Maintenance work on plant equipment to insure plant reliability.
  • Perform energy isolation lockout/tagout/tryout procedures (LOTOTO).
  • Works as a team directly with the Improvement Leader, Maintenance Technicians, and other Alsip personnel.
  • Works in partnership with other departments such as Production Operators, HES, Engineering, Scheduling, Purchasing, Quality, and Shipping.
  • Properly close out and charge hours to PMs and work orders within SAP. Proactively prioritize repairs and troubleshooting of all plant equipment to the best of their ability.
  • Assist with implementation and maintenance of activities and procedures.
  • Read and interpret manuals, policy, engineering standards, regulations, drawings, and schematics, including electrical, pneumatic, and P&ID’s.


Accountabilities:


  • Plant PMs and work orders of instrumentation, electrical, and control systems. (70-80% of workload).
  • Work with contractors and vendors to assist with capital projects, order parts, and complete repairs requiring external resources. (10-20% of workload).
  • Other duties as assigned (10-20% of workload).
  • Installing power and wiring to new equipment and instrumentation.
  • Perform routine maintenance duties to include troubleshooting complex systems and sub-systems.
  • Knowledge of spare parts system and report all inconsistency.
  • Support the I/E maintenance improvement efforts at the Alsip Plant.
  • Complete Safety and Equipment Inspections.
  • Use site CMMS (SAP) to document and complete site maintenance activities.
  • HSE responsibilities include but are not limited to those outlined in Leadership expectations such as following all site safety procedures, completing site safety training, and reporting of incidents in a timely manner.
  • Craftsmen Training and Certifications.


Context and Environment:


Interactive with people, self-starter, interfaces with all plant departments and personnel.

  • Proactively look for improvements and repairs within the plant.
  • Working knowledge of best recommended I/E and engineering practices and procedures.
  • Follow corporate policies and procedures, and code of conduct. Promote, participate, and encourage Teams Concept for the Alsip Plant. Understand CMMS work order system.


As directed by the Improvement Leader to ensure best-recommended safety, environmental, and engineering methods for timely and efficient task completion. This position is empowered by the Improvement Leader to make responsible and educated decisions on Maintenance repairs and techniques as distinguished by individual situations.


Qualifications:


  • Minimum High School education or GED. College degree or equivalent preferred. Certified Craftsmen with working knowledge of I/E equipment and replacement parts, gained through education or several years practical field experience.
  • 3+ years experience working with I/E equipment.
  • Thoroughly familiar with Industry Policies and Procedures to include Safety and Environmental.
  • Working knowledge of best practices for installations and specifications.
  • Experience in accepted industry procedures. Knowledge of Hazcom Program (SDS manual). Emergency response manual.
  • Familiar in the work order procedure.
  • Must be available to respond to call outs.
  • Willing and able to climb and/or work in elevated areas, standing and sitting for extended periods.
  • Willing and able to work both outdoors and indoors in hot, cold, wet and dry conditions.
  • Willing and able to lift 50 lbs. and complete work that involves repetitive motion and/or repetitive lifting.
  • Willingness and ability to work overtime hours and call outs including weekend work required during seasonal peaks.
