Position Summary

Classify and identify individuals by fingerprints; determine criminal status of individuals through database research; provide information to officers to ensure proper identification and perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility.

Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements
Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.

High school diploma or GED; and

Four (4) years of clerical or administrative support experience; and

To include at least one (1) year of clerical or administrative support experience in a security or law enforcement environment.

Experience classifying and identifying fingerprints or processing, reviewing and researching criminal history and accurately maintain supporting information and databases preferred.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid NCIC certification within six (6) months from date of hire.
Completion of Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) training within six (6) months from date of hire.

  • The typing test requirement will be waived temporarily due to the closure of state and county agencies and educational institutions.

Must possess a valid certified typing test issued by a state agency, county agency or an accredited educational institution with a minimum score of twenty-five (25) net WPM. Local typing tests may be taken Monday - Friday 8am to 3:30pm at the following locations: NM Workforce Connection, 501 Mountain Rd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87102 OR Sandoval Workforce Connection, 301 Rail Runner Ave, Bernalillo, NM 87004.

  • Operations, services and activities of a fingerprint identification program
  • Principles and procedures of fingerprint reading
  • Principles and procedures of background research
  • Methods and techniques of classifying and identifying individuals by fingerprints
  • Modern office procedures, methods and equipment including computers
  • Principles and procedures of record keeping
  • Occupational hazards and standard safety practices

Preferred Skills & Abilities

  • Independently perform the most difficult fingerprinting duties and functions
  • Research and analyze technical information and submit detailed reports
  • Interpret, explain and enforce department policies and procedures
  • Operate a variety of standard office equipment including applicable computer systems in an effective manner
  • Complete required training classes as assigned by position
  • Work independently in the absence of supervision
  • Respond to requests and inquiries from the general public
  • Operate a variety of standard office equipment and applicable software in an effective manner
  • Communicate clearly and concisely
  • Perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
