QUALIFICATIONS: Must have at least a HS Diploma or equivalent and hold a driver license valid for operation in New York State with no record of suspension or revocation within five (5) years prior to application for certification unless otherwise deemed eligible by DMV. Must not be employed by or otherwise hold a financial interest in an alcoholism and substance abuse evaluation/treatment provider to which participants may be referred or where participants may be treated. Must obtain full certification within one (1) year of curriculum trainings and delivery of a full cycle of the curriculum. Continued employment contingent upon maintenance of certification. At least two (2) years of presentation/teaching or group counselor experience preferred with a focus in substance use/abuse. Reliable transportation required.

The IDP Instructor is part of an interdisciplinary team and facilitates weekly Impaired Driver Program (IDP) classes, providing an in-depth education to participants in accordance with the curriculum provided by the NYS DMV.

JOB DUTIES

  • Facilitate IDP classes in accordance with NYS DMV requirements;
  • Adhere to the provisions of Article 21 and Section 1196 of the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law, DMV Regulations (15 NYCRR 134, 134.10), the terms of the NYS IDP Director's Guide (DPR-175), as amended;
  • Comply with all IDP Service Agreement terms;
  • Ensure that the classroom environment is safe and accessible for participants;
  • Meet DMV-approved continuing education requirements including completion of mandatory DMV-approved activities designed to enhance course presentation or administration of the IDP;
  • Maintain availability on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings for annual rotating instructor/class schedule;
  • Ensure coverage by another instructor in the event of absence;
  • Communicate concerns or updates regarding class participants to the Director of Prevention & Education Services;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Compensation: $90 per class, paid training, and exciting opportunities for professional development.
