Overview:
The Indirect Tax Manager is part of the Corporate Finance Team, reporting to the Corporate Controller. This position will be responsible for managing and overseeing key processes related to sales, use, property and other indirect taxes and fees, coordinating state and local tax audits and ensuring compliance with all indirect tax related legal and reporting regulations in the US. The Manager will also be responsible for the reconciliation and analysis of all tax-related general ledger accounts (including income and franchise taxes).

This will be a hybrid position based out of our corporate office in Chantilly, VA. Candidates will have the flexibility to work some days from home.
Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the primary point of contact and relationship manager for outsourced compliance resources utilized for sales/use tax and property tax compliance.
  • Serve as the business owner of the Vertex indirect tax system.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable sales/use, property (real and personal), business licenses and annual reports.
  • Perform and or coordinate research to document indirect tax positions as they pertain to CORT. Proactively monitor, analyze, and interpret state and local tax law legislative changes to ensure appropriate planning to handle the impact on compliance and reporting.
  • Manage indirect tax audits and negotiate audit settlements. Improve processes to remediate issues identified during audits.
  • Analyze and reconcile all general ledger tax accounts monthly. Ensure tax balances are correctly reported in accordance with US GAAP.
  • Prepare monthly indirect tax accruals and related journal entries. Research, review and recommend positions related to any loss contingency reserves for indirect taxes.
  • Provide support to business on the impact of indirect taxes on new business efforts or unusual transactions.
Qualifications:
  • Strong technical knowledge of indirect taxes in the US.
  • Working knowledge of GAAP and accounting for state and local taxes.
  • Technical tax and systems knowledge. Strong desire to stay current with emerging legislation and audit trends related to indirect taxes.
  • Strong analytical and detail-oriented skills with the ability to organize large amounts of information into concise auditable documentation.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively prioritize work effort.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel. Vertex Series O knowledge strongly preferred.
  • 7 to 10 years' work experience in indirect or other tax roles.
  • Certifications are a plus
