SVCC is located in a rural setting of rolling hills, pine and hardwood forests, and farmland. There is easy access to nearby metropolitan Richmond, Virginia, the state’s capital, as well as Raleigh, North Carolina, and Lynchburg, Virginia. The area is famous for its two lakes, Gaston and Kerr, and a multitude of state and national parks which offer recreational opportunities such as fishing, boating, skiing, jet-skiing, hiking, horseback riding, picnics, and relaxation. SVCC is currently seeking applicants for the position of Information Technology Adjunct to teach at it’s Center for Information Technology Excellence (CITE) in South Hill, VA. The successful candidate must be committed to our mission to provide quality education to a diverse constituency.

Adjunct faculty members are responsible for effectively planning and teaching courses in a classroom environment to students with a variety of academic backgrounds and experiences.

Classes taught may be day, night and/or weekends and may be seated, online, or hybrid. Classes may be located on or off campus, possibly in local high schools, or in a correctional center.

Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or related field or an Associate’s degree in information technology or related field with demonstrated proficiency in the field of information technology; willingness to teach in Dual Enrollment in the high schools or on campus, off-campus centers, and/or correctional facilities; demonstrated teaching skills; excellent communication skills; an understanding of the community college environment and mission; ability to work effectively with a culturally and educationally diverse student population; understanding of current best practices in pedagogy; competency in and dedication to the use of instructional technologies.

Candidate should possess or obtain upon hire, corresponding CompTIA certifications in their area of teaching: CompTIA ITF+, A+, Net+, Sec+, Server+, Cloud+, Project+.

CompTIA Certified Technical Trainer (CTT+) preferred.

Master’s degree in Information Technology
Prior teaching experience
