This opportunity joins a reputable law firm with over 125 lawyers. The Business Development Manager is responsible for creating and implementing marketing and business development plans that will expand existing client relationships, attract new clients, and build the Firm’s profile.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Chief Business Development Officer (CBDO) and attorneys to create and implement business development and marketing plans for assigned practice groups and individual attorneys; contribute to the Firm’s BD coaching programs for attorneys.
  • Initiate and support cross-selling activities among attorneys; work with assigned practice groups to develop client acquisition strategies.
  • Track client development activities and new BD efforts for attorneys in assigned practice groups.
  • Serve as project manager to the RFP process including the initiation of a “go/no-go discussion,” lead the development of the proposal independently or in conjunction with the Marketing Content Specialist, host debrief discussions, and oversee collaboration on all activities and assignments associated with the opportunity.
  • Conduct market analysis, industry, and competitive intelligence research reports for business development opportunities.
  • Work with practice group leaders to schedule and participate in assigned practice group BD meetings. This includes collaborating with practice group leaders to develop agendas and group BD/marketing priorities, following up with attorneys on assigned BD/marketing tasks, and coordinating efforts between practice groups to drive cross selling and other collaborative activities.
  • Serve as front-line manager on incoming business development/marketing projects and serve as project manager from conception to follow-through to ensure efficiency and quality.
  • Identify and develop marketing strategies that will support business development opportunities for assigned practice groups including profile building activities, content development, strategic industry and business memberships and involvement, events, PR opportunities, and advertisement placements.
  • Work with the marketing team and attorneys to ensure Firm hosted and sponsored events are leveraged for building new and strengthening existing client relationships.
  • Coordinate logistics associated with Buffalo-based community sponsorships with attorneys and marketing team members, i.e., sponsorship benefits and attorney attendance.
  • Coordinate the planning and execution of Buffalo-based in-person, virtual, and hybrid events; marketing and client development receptions and seminars; and other special events.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team on submissions for Chambers USA, Best Law Firms and other relevant ranking programs as assigned.
  • Work with the CBDO to prepare annual budgets for practices groups; manage budgets throughout the calendar year to ensure they align with the practice group strategy.
  • Serve as a Firm representative at local business and community events.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s or equivalent degree required.
  • 5+ years of experience working in a law firm, or business organization in a similar role; knowledge of the Buffalo business community preferable.
  • Pro-active self-starter who needs minimal supervision who is highly motivated to exceed expectations.
  • Superior writing skills and ability to write/edit marketing collateral, press releases, web content, internal communications, and proposals.
  • Ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously while consistently delivering quality results; comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Superior verbal and presentation skills.
  • Ability to think critically and analytically; demonstrated ability to oversee marketing budgets.
  • Consistently demonstrate strong customer service orientation and attitude.
  • Flexibility to evolve with the position as required.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $70,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday
