Position Overview Old Sturbridge Academy Charter Public School is seeking talented educators to serve as Instructional Support Aide teachers for grades k-7.Instructional Support Aides work under a teachers direct supervision to give students additional attention and instruction. Successful candidate must share OSACPSs mission and EL Education philosophy, which will provide k-8 students with rigorous, real world learning experiences in a supportive and nurturing school community, helping all students to become reflective inquisitors, articulate communicators, critical thinkers, and skilled problem solvers. Old Sturbridge Academy Charter Public School, an EL Education (formerly known as Expeditionary Learning) school working in partnership with Old Sturbridge Village, will foster a learning environment that represents all aspects of the diversity spectrum where our students will meet or exceed grade-level expectations in all subject areas.About the SchoolOld Sturbridge Academy Charter Public School opened in 2017 and will serve 360 students in grades kindergarten through eighth during the 2022-2023 school year. There are 40 students in each grade level. We are chartered K-8 and will reach our maximum enrollment of 360 students in the 2022-2023 school year. We believe in hands-on learning that focuses on three levels of student achievement: mastery of knowledge and skills, character, and high-quality work.
Our schools habits of character, which define our culture, are courage, collaboration, stewardship, perseverance, and high-quality work.QualificationsMust hold an Associates degree (or higher) or passed one of the formal Massachusetts-endorsed Assessments: ParaPro or WorkKeysHighly desired: Understanding of behavioral interventions and applied behavioral analysis (ABA)Ability to work independently as well as in a teamKnowledge of the IEP Team processExcellent communication skills, both verbal and writtenStrong organization skills and attention to detailResponsibilities: Discuss assigned duties with classroom teachers in order to coordinate instructional efforts.Prepare lesson materials, bulletin board displays, exhibits, equipment, and demonstrations.Present subject matter to students under the direction and guidance of lead teacher.Tutor and assist children individually or in small groups in order to help them master assignments and to reinforce learning concepts presented by teachers.Supervise students in classrooms, halls, lunch area, and any area considered school grounds.Grade homework and tests, and compute and record results, using answer sheets or electronic marking devices.Observe students' performance, and record relevant data to assess progress.Organize and label materials, and display students work in a manner appropriate for their eye levels and perceptual skills.Plan, prepare, and develop various teaching aids such as bibliographies, charts, and graphs.Prepare lesson outlines and plans in assigned subject areas, and submit outlines to teachers for review.Provide extra assistance to students with special needs, such as non-English-speaking students or those with physical and learning disabilities.Take class attendance, and maintain attendance records.Assist in bus loading and unloading.Attend staff meetings, and serve on committees as required.Carry out therapeutic regimens such as behavior modification and personal development programs, under the supervision of special education instructors, psychologists, or speech-language pathologists.Maintain computers in classrooms and laboratories, and assist students with hardware and software use.Provide students with disabilities with assistive devices, supportive technology, and assistance accessing facilities such as restrooms.Requisition and stock teaching materials and supplies.Use computers, audiovisual aids, and other equipment and materials to supplement presentations.Join Our Adult CrewAt Old Sturbridge Academy, our faculty and staff collaborate and support one another and our students through a number of school wide activities, events and celebrations. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in a number of these events, ranging from student and family orientation activities to celebrations of learning to graduation. We work together to support the safe and happy arrival and dismissal of our students, collaborate and plan together and use data to guide decision-making.We are intentional about engaging our faculty and staff in the development of the Academy and of themselves. School wide professional meetings happen before the start of the school year and throughout.
All staff are encouraged and expected to participate in school-funded professional development opportunities during the school year and over the summer as approved by the Principal.
