Instrumentation Test Engineer I

The Structural Test team is responsible for executing tests in support of company and certification requirements for current and future Gulfstream products. Structural Test includes testing in support of aircraft structures, powerplant, electrical systems, mechanical systems, flight deck, and flight controls. Testing could include static and fatigue structural, flammability, or experimental.


Roles / Responsibilities

  • Perform activities in support of static, fatigue, flammability, full-scale aircraft, component level, and coupon testing.
  • Generate Electrical and Assembly Schematic design in support to test execution.
  • Support setup to test execution of test equipment devices.
  • Under supervision, review test requirements and test plans.
  • Create Instrumentation concepts and sensor selection based on requirements.
  • Create detailed instrumentation designs of test setups.
  • Support configuration and programing of Data Acquisition, Load Control and General Test Hardware
  • Assist in the selection of instrumentation sensors and process automation.
  • Support creating test setup documentation.
  • Resolve test setup issues.
  • Report on status of assigned tests and projects.


Required Skills

  • Bachelor of Electrical, Automation or Computing Engineering
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Familiar with general transducers
  • Willing to think outside the box to develop unique solutions to challenges.
  • Excellent with multitasking and able to quickly shift priorities.


Desired Skills

  • Familiar with MS Office software
  • Experience with Data Acquisition and Control Software
  • Familiar with test environment
  • General programming skills
  • Familiar with analyzing circuits, schematics and electronic problem solving


Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor's Degree Engineering or related curriculum required or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Entry level. 0-18 months experience.

Position Purpose:

Performs engineering work related to the investigation and solution of basic problems associated with research, design, development, service and manufacture of Gulfstream aircraft.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential Functions:
  • Provides technical assistance to engineering staff and contributes by completing discrete engineering tasks on schedule .

  • Using company procedures, applies engineering knowledge to resolve routine issues .

  • Analyzes and evaluates results of project activities .

  • Prepares recommendations for changes and compiles necessary reports for various department supervision .

  • Recognizes discrepancies and/or problems with analysis/test results and works toward corrective action .

Additional Functions:
  • Actively works to improve daily processes, and ensures all work meets customer requirements .

  • Continues learning and developing knowledge of application of technical principles, theories, and concepts in assigned field of expertise .

Perform other duties as assigned.

Other Requirements:
  • The level of technical skills and abilities appropriate for this grade level will be established by each discipline.

  • Work is closely supervised/monitored, follows established procedures and methods.

  • Failure to achieve results may cause delays in program schedules.

  • Ability to convey technical concepts in both written and verbal formats.

  • Contacts are primarily with direct supervisor, mentor, and other exempt professionals in the group or department.
