Position Description

This is an Insurance Examiner 1 position located in Carson City. The Insurance Examiner 1 works within Business and Industry, Division of Insurance, Corporate & Financial Affairs section (C&F). Corporate & Financial Affairs is responsible for the following as pertain to insurers: Company licensing, financial statement analysis, holding company analysis, collateral management, financial examinations, receivership processes, strategic planning, new product/program implementation, and maintenance of corporate records. This position reports to the Assistant Chief Insurance Examiner in charge of the analysis unit, which is responsible for financial analysis of domestic insurers and their holding companies. The Insurance Examiner I is primarily responsible for in-depth and challenging analysis of the assigned domestic insurers in accordance with Corporate & Financial Affairs policies and procedures and the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) risk-focused financial analysis handbook and accreditation standards. This position may or may not be supervisory in nature, depending on the needs of the unit. The Insurance Examiner I may also be called upon to perform some of the more difficult analysis assignments, or to train other analysts.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, business, economics, finance, information technology, insurance, mathematics, risk management, statistics, data analytics, or closely related field and two years of professional experience performing duties of an accountant, auditor, actuary, investment advisor, insurance broker, stockbroker, trust officer, financial or market examiner, financial or market regulator, employee benefit advisor, health benefit advisor, insurance advisor, retirement analyst, or closely related field; OR Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, business, economics, finance, information technology, insurance, mathematics, risk management, statistics, data analytics, or closely related field and three years of professional experience as described above; OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and four years of professional experience as described above; OR one year of experience as an Insurance Examiner Associate II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
