Position: Intake Coordinator Internship

Reports to: CMH Program Manager

Program: Children and Adolescent Mental Health (CMH)

Classification: Non-Exempt, Full-Time

Salary: $31- $33.50 per hour; Commensurate with experience

Summary:

The Intake Coordinator Intern is a temporary position with a one-year commitment. After completion of one-year commitment, Intake Coordinator Intern may apply to another position (if available) and transition to new role. Salary may differ.

Under the supervision of the Program Manager, the Intake Coordinator Intern will assist with addressing consumer request for services via screening of referrals and conducting formal assessments of clients that may be transferred to another Therapist. Intake Coordinator Intern will manage their own caseload of clients and provide continuous therapeutic treatment and care. Clinical supervision is provided. The Intake Coordinator Intern will be responsible in keeping with UPAC’s goals, objectives, and mission. The Intake Coordinator Intern is also responsible for working with the team of direct service staff and management staff in participating in the delivery of program goals and objectives.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

This position is 0.80 FTE direct clinical service and 0.20 FTE Administrative and may vary depending on workload and demand.

Clinical Duties:

  • Performs brief, goal-oriented psychotherapy with individuals, families, and groups
  • Weekly productivity goal of 1,056 minutes
  • Perform at a minimum of 6 assessments per month
  • Assist in coordinating program referrals, including screening, logging, and follow-up of referrals
  • Assist in providing training for new staff and volunteers/student Therapists
  • Complete Intake Assessments for staff Therapists and student Therapists and urgent cases
  • Provide clinical coverage for transfers due to Therapist departures
  • Provide clinical coverage when therapist caseloads are full until able to transfer the case
  • Provides a minimum of one family session a month
  • Functions as member of a multi-disciplinary team and participated in diagnosis, treatment, and discharge planning
  • Provides clinic, in-home and school-based counseling, outreach, and other community services as required
  • Prepares medical records of services rendered including psychiatric history, mental status examinations, progress notes, treatment plans, quality assurance and others
  • Utilization of Cerner Electronic Medical Record system
  • Provides intensive case management and coordination of individual cases and refers appropriate problems to other ancillary services or community agencies
  • Participates in staff meetings, Clinical Supervision as required, case conferences, training, utilization reviews and other quality assurance activities
  • Provide administrative support to Program Manager, including improving overall program efficiencies and workflow
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with all County and State regulations guiding the delivery of services, including those specified in the County of San Diego’s Organizational Provider Operations Handbook, and those requirements specified in UPAC’s contract with the County
  • Perform statistical data collection, develop tracking systems, and other means of ensuring program compliance
  • Provide assistance in agency and program audits
  • Assist in acquiring and maintenance of program inventory, including therapeutic supplies
  • Assist with program compliance of outcome measures
  • Other duties and responsibilities as requested by Program Director and Program Manager

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree (or higher) in Social Work, Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy or Counseling from an accredited college or university with major work in clinical practice
  • Have a current CA licensed MFT/MSW or CA registered AMFT/ASW
  • At least 1 year experience with assessments in children and adolescent outpatient county contracted mental health clinic
  • Knowledge of theory and practice of psychotherapy, as well as principles and practice of community mental health, including principles and practices as it relates to integrated behavioral health services
  • Must have strong understanding of billing and documentation guidelines for Medi-Cal
  • Must have understanding of cultural competency and knowledge of how stigma and discrimination interfere with access to mental health services
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with strong attention to detail, ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, prioritize and successfully bring them to fruition
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality with regard to sensitive or proprietary information or materials
  • Ability to prepare written reports and records of services rendered
  • Intermediate to advanced level of computer literacy and experience using Microsoft Office programs (i.e., word processing, spreadsheets, database, PowerPoint, and email programs) and Cerner Electronic Medical Record
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a multicultural environment, including tact, diplomacy, patience, and professionalism in dealing with individuals from a variety of backgrounds
  • Skilled in proof-reading and reviewing documents for accuracy and completeness
  • Ability to work well under pressure and constant change
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Flexible, self-starter, and promote program efficiency and morale
  • Must pass background check (fingerprint Live Scan)
  • Must have clear TB test
  • COVID-19 Vaccination required, unless exempted as a reasonable accommodation as allowed by the law.
  • Will not be debarred or excluded from participation in Federal programs by the General Services Administration and/or Department of Health and Human Services of the Inspector General

MISCELLANEOUS:

  • Must have own transportation for business purposes. If employee drives his/her personal automobile for UPAC business, employee must have a valid driver’s license and comprehensive automobile insurance coverage, as required by law.
  • Some evenings and weekends required for outreach, community events, and/or business travel

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Spends approximately 70% of work time sitting and meeting with others or working at a desk and/or computer. Spends approximately 30% of work time standing or walking within the work area or outside the office at meetings and events, also bends, twists, stoops and reaches. Ability to communicate in writing and verbally. Regularly required to sit and talk or hear. Frequently is required to use hands to touch, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. Occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 25 pounds. Working conditions are normal for an office environment and event venues. The noise level is usually moderate
