If you're interested in performing operational and financial internal audits to ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) Section 404 and to assist with evaluating the Bank’s internal processes, our Internal Audit SOX Specialist role may be for you! Responsibilities:

  • Plan and conduct SOX internal audits to evaluate the adequacy, effectiveness, and efficiency of internal controls as well as adherence to SOX 404 objectives and Bank policies and procedures. This will include gathering data through a variety of methods including interviews, financial research, downloads, etc. and documenting relevant information to support the internal audit conclusions and recommendations.
  • Ensure the completion of internal/external SOX control testing, maintain the control library, and collaborate with control owners regarding SOX 404 documentation and completion of quarterly attestations.
  • Research and understand SOX (specifically section 404), internal auditing standards, COSO, GAAP, and risk assessment practices as well as laws, banking industry standards, and Bank policies and procedures.
  • Identify and recommend solutions and/or new procedures to strengthen financial reporting controls to mitigate loss exposure.
  • Collaborate with Bank management to identify practical corrective actions to address recommendations, evaluate management’s action plans for sufficiency, and maintain a system to monitor the disposition of such corrective actions, including conducting remediation testing to ensure effectiveness of implemented actions.
  • Prepare internal audit reports and/or results of quarterly testing for presentation to Internal Audit leadership, auditees, senior management, and the Audit Committee. Reports are to include the results of the internal audit objectives and scope as well as applicable conclusions, recommendations, and action plans. Communications must be accurate, objective, clear, concise, constructive, complete, and timely.
  • Assist in training of employees to promote awareness of internal control responsibilities, related regulatory requirements, and fraud detection and prevention.
  • Assist in coordinating audit efforts with those of state, federal, and other independent outside auditors and/or examiners.
  • Maintain sufficient independence from Bank management to clearly demonstrate objectivity in matters affecting audit conclusions.

Who You Are

  • Bachelors’ degree in Accounting or Business or equivalent of education and experience
  • 6+ years’ audit and/or bank auditing experience preferred
  • 6+ years’ SOX Compliance experience preferred
  • CPA, CMA, and/or CIA a plus but not required

Actual salaries will vary depending on factors including but not limited to experience, and performance. The range listed is just one component of Heartland Bank’s total compensation package for employees.
