Information Technology Director The Information Technology Director is responsible for network administration, technology equipment, maintenance, training, and ensuring the technological environment for the school is available and operational for teachers, staff, and students.
The Information Technology Director reports to the Chief Operating Officer, supervises all members of the Information Technology team (an IT Manager and IT Associate), and works closely with Principals and other key staff. This job description is meant to provide an outline of the responsibilities of the position, but there may be other duties assigned as the needs of the school arise. Capital City is an Apple OS work environment with over 2,000 student devices (Chromebooks and tablets) and over 200 staff devices (MacBooks and Chromebooks). Our single facility hosts over 1,000 students across our Lower School (PK3-4th grade), Middle School (5th-8th), and High School (9th-12th).Responsibilities: Help Desk Management and SupportManage the Help Desk, oversee technical support and troubleshooting for user hardware and software, network equipment, and printers/copiers.Provide service throughout the building and network based upon Help Desk tickets and user reports.Provide user account support, including account documentation, change requests, and maintenance.Work with staff, data, and user feedback to identify areas of technical need and opportunities for growth.Administer and make changes to the Help Desk ticketing platform as needs dictate.IT Department ManagementAdminister and architect Google Workspace domain for collaboration and productivity for staff and students.Provide database, calendar, website, and web applications support as needed.Coordinate and/or provide training to school staff in network and software use.Develop and administer IT procedures and policy, and support user awareness of IT systems and procedures.Supervise the school fleet of computers, including all staff and student end-points.Coordinate classroom technology configurations, including presentation tools and student devices.Provide classroom-level support as needed.Manage school audio and video resources.Manage school printing system of 30+ copiers and printers.
Coordinate and manage IT vendors and consultants as needed, including establishing and maintaining effective sourcing on all target skill sets.Develop and meet IT Department goals in service quality and client satisfaction.Supervise IT staff.Oversee IT budget and spending, including procurement of all school technology and IT services.Coordinate the use of technology with all school personnel.Administer and implement additional SaaS (software as a service) administration tools as needed.Network AdministrationCoordinate the maintenance, operation, and management of existing school network.Oversee the planning, design, and installation of future network expansions as growth demands.Manage network security, including maintaining a firewall that meets federal standards and CIPA.Develop and maintain network procedures to ensure regular system backups on a timely basis.Oversee network account administration, including active directory and copier user management.Coordinate with school instructional and operational staff and contractors to manage intercom, bells and paging systems.Maintain school security and access control systems.Manage Cisco VoIP phone and voicemail system.Monitor network for 99.9% uptime.Utilize a strong understanding of macOS, iPadOS, and iOS to assist and direct IT support staff for the school environment.Network SupportDesign and implement new network solutions and/or improve the efficiency of current networks.Configure firewalls, routing and switching to maximize network efficiency and security.Make recommendations to improve network performance and quality.Consult on increasing IT security and preparedness.Maximize network performance through ongoing monitoring and troubleshooting.Arrange scheduled upgrades.Investigate faults in the network.Update network equipment to the latest firmware releases.Report network status to key stakeholders.Maintain documentation surrounding network configuration.Technology Inventories / DocumentationManage documentation on all network systems, hardware, software and IT processes and protocols.Oversee the maintenance of an inventory of hardware and related peripherals.Draft and coordinate revision of IT policies as needed.Create and maintain student and staff technology use agreements.Perform data analysis and manage equipment life and maintenance cycles.Perform technology assessments and strategic planning. Staff and Student SupportCoordinate activities of outside vendors, consultants and trainers for staff/student training as needed.Coordinate with instructional staff to encourage student development of skills in the use of technology resources.Establish an environment encouraging creative and independent use of technology.Provide computer instruction to students when appropriate.
