JOB SPECIFICATIONS:


1. Must possess the ability to perform the following:


A. Effectively implement, monitor, troubleshoot, repair and upgrade IS/IT hardware, software and networks.


B. Effectively communicate via telephone, e-mail and in writing, and interface in a polite manner with hospital personnel, physicians, patients and the public.


C. Demonstrate critical thinking skills, the ability to reason, and ability to learn and use mathematical and technical concepts.


D. Communicate effectively using computer and/or medical terminology, as it applies to IS/IT, and to inform and train technical and non-technical people.


E. Handle confidential information appropriately and discreetly without divulging THA strategic, proprietary, employee or patient information, except on a strictly authorized and need-to-know basis.


2. Qualifications:


A. One or more year’s experience in IS/IT is required, preferably in a hospital setting. Familiarity with medical equipment and/or medical computer hardware/software/networks is highly preferred. Training is provided to orient the experienced person to THA’s specific information system.


B. Must be able to read, write and speak the English language in order to communicate effectively and tactfully with staff, vendors and the general public.


3. Physical Requirements:


A. Must be able to sit, stand, bend and ambulate effectively.


B. Must be able to lift and move up to 70 pounds.


C. Must demonstrate adequate dexterity to work in unique positions and in limited space for extended periods of time.


D. Must demonstrate specific vision abilities, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.


MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

High school diploma or GED with 3 to 5 years experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Have the ability to obtain Specified Manufacturer Software Certification.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Ability to install, maintain, and administer all equipment necessary to operate the infrastructure environment properly, including, but not limited to, hardware, software, storage, networking devices, peripherals including virtualization hardware and operating systems.
  • Ability to monitor CPU, memory, and disk utilization.
  • Ability to monitor system availability, warnings, and errors, including system, application, and security logs.
  • Ability to install, maintain, and administer network switches, hubs, routers, and wireless access devices, including configuration, operating system upgrades, and firmware updates.
  • Ability to design, configure and maintain VLAN network segmentation; ability to design, configure and maintain internet and secondary network connectivity.
  • Ability to monitor network availability, bandwith utilization, resource usage, warning, and errors, including system logs. Troubleshoot issues identified through monitoring and resolving such issues in a timely fashion.
  • Ability to install, maintain, and administer security routers, firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems, including configuration, operating system upgrades and firmware updates.
  • Ability to design, set-up, configure, and maintain access lists, policy rules, remote access, and VPN connectivity.
  • Ability to simultaneously coordinate and complete multiple projects.
  • Ability to assist with third-party technology vendor support
  • Records maintenance skills.


JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, uses specialized knowledge or skills to perform hardware support and repairs for user departments across the facility. Resolve hardware, software, and communication problems/conflicts/defects. May interact with customers, recommend vendors, and control supplies and/or parts.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Develops, implements, monitors, maintains and troubleshoots software programs associated with the hospital’s clinical system.

2. Builds tables, charts, and other electronic programs to ensure continued advancement of the hospital’s clinical information system.

3. Works closely with the hospital’s software vendor(s) and vendors’ support staff to ensure effective and trouble-free systems.

4. Provides advanced hardware technical assistance and support; troubleshoots and resolves system hardware, software, and communications failures and conflicts.

5. Installs, integrates, and configures new computer systems and hardware for users.

6. Train employees, as appropriate and as directed by the Director of MIS.

7. Maintains a high level quality of customer service standards in dealing with and responding to questions.

8. Assist Director of MIS, as needed and as directed by the Director in various aspects of the MIS department’s administrative function. This includes, but is not limited to, communicating with vendors, THA departments, managers and medical staff; completing routine reports; gathering relevant information and maintaining accurate records.

9. Take after hours call on a as needed basis as determined by the Director of MIS.

10. Respond to disaster call, day or night.

11. Report all problems or concerns through the proper chain of management. Keep Director of MIS informed regarding all matters of concern to the department.

12. Any other duties as assigned by the Director of MIS or Division Director of Fiscal Services to ascertain the mission of THA.


WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:

  • Work is normally performed in an interior/office or workshop environment.
  • Considerable physical work. Heavy lifting, pushing or pulling required of objects up to 70 pounds. Physical work is primary part (50%) of job.
  • Follow basic safety precautions.

Position requires: a) Knowledge of application practices and methodologies; b) Investigating and resolving problems, and/or repairing as specified by work orders; c) Performing system upgrades, and other customized configurations; and d) Installing, integrating and configuring new systems and hardware for users.
