Position: Junior Level Materials and Manufacturing Research Scientist/Engineer

Location: Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD (THIS IS AN ONSITE POSITION)

Security Clearance: Active clearance or eligible to obtain; U.S. citizenship required

Salary: $75,000 to $90,000 depending on experience

Job Summary for Materials Research Scientist/Engineer:

SURVICE Engineering is seeking a Scientist/Engineer specializing in Basic and Applied Materials Research, and processing and manufacturing science technologies for the development of ceramics employed in advanced weapon systems and Soldier protection equipment. Tasks may include:

  • Conduct research in synthesis, processing, and characterization of transparent and opaque ceramic materials. Application spaces include, 1) manned and unmanned vehicle protection, 2) dismounted Soldier protection, and 3) advanced weapon systems in extreme environments (high temperature and stress regimes).
  • Conduct materials and manufacturing science at laboratory and pilot manufacturing scales, including conventional and advanced ceramic manufacturing approaches (additive/convergent manufacturing).
  • Conduct multi-scale advanced materials modeling.
  • Recommend courses of action for internal and external Government research collaborations.
  • Coordinate, prepare, and maintain supplies, materials, and equipment for use at laboratories.
  • Present research projects at technical meetings and conferences.


Minimum Required Education/Qualifications for Materials Research Scientist/Engineer:

  • BS or MS in Engineering or Physical Science and at least 2 years of experience (can include related undergrad research and internships)
  • Experience with ceramics manufacturing
  • Experience working in a research environment (educational experience is allowable)
  • Experience in writing proposals, reports, technical program summaries, PowerPoint presentations, and journal publications would be a plus.
