NTBHA is the Local Behavioral Health Authority (LBHA) contracted by Texas Human Services Commission (HHSC) to provide mental health and substance use disorder services to qualified indigent consumers in our six-county region of Dallas, Ellis, Hunt, Kaufman, Navarro, and Rockwall Counties.
NTBHA is responsible for developing a collaborative system of care for individuals in crisis in the NTBHA service area. We are focused on trauma-informed, resilience-oriented care in all services provided.
Position's Role Summary:
- This position’s actions and work must align with NTBHA values and goals, regulations, and policies and procedures, and meet all documentation standards and regulatory requirements.
- Primary function is utilization management, conducting utilization review and granting and denying authorizations for State Hospital inpatient acute/sub-acute level of care as part of the DSHS State Hospital Allocation Methodology.
- Conducts perspective and concurrent reviews for authorization of State Hospital acute/sub-acute levels of care.
- Conducts reviews using clinical information submitted by State Hospital Psychiatrist, Nurses, Admission Department, Social Workers, Psychologist and Criminal Justice Departments.
- Direct contact with these providers, review of medical necessity records and contact with the individual and family members when needed and appropriate.
- Informs individuals and State Hospital treatment team relative to appropriate treatment alternatives and community resources.
- Assists with continuity of care for the State Hospital by collaboration with the State Hospital Social Worker, who is the discharge planner, with linkage to NTBHA community resources and aftercare appointments.
- Duties and projects may be assigned or changed to meet business needs.
Credentials required to perform function:
LPC, LMFT, LCSW licensed in Texas and found by the LMHA to be fully qualified to perform all LMHA UM functions.
At least five years’ experience in direct care of individuals with SPMI individuals with a serious mental illness including in an acute care setting.
At least five years’ experience participating as a member of a treatment team that develops and monitors treatment plans for individuals with chronic and serious mental illness.
Documented training within the past three years in psychopharmacology, medical/psychiatric co-morbidity and complications of serious mental illness and at least one year of experience supervising MH providers.
Demonstrated competence in performing UM and review activities. Experience in mental health inpatient utilization strongly preferred.
