Position Overview

Here at Avantor, our UK team are looking for an experienced commercial lead to support a major global customer for Avantor, GSK. The role will report into the Global Strategic Partner Director.


Joining the Strategic Partners team offers a global perspective and enterprise-wide view on Avantor's activities with our largest client base.


In your role as Key Account Manager, you will be responsible for developing and executing strategy that will drive long term profitable sales growth in line with corporate objectives. You will apply financial analysis and understanding of broad market trends, competitor activities and drivers of business success to shape direction and strategy and generate successful tactical activity.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Take responsibility for driving a mutually successful partnership with the GSK account. You will do this by being a regular on-site presence, identifying opportunities for new business versus our competitors, and collaborating with internal stakeholders
  • You will develop strategic, tactical plans to deliver on company financial goals and maximise revenues and profits. You will roll out initiatives collaboratively with the wider internal strategic partner team to achieve maximum growth.
  • Work towards meeting and exceeding set targets by being a key part of delivery of all KPI's assigned to your customer portfolio, including customer engagement, opportunity generation, funnel management, sales growth and portfolio development
  • Work with internal and external team to initiate and drive new business opportunities. Do this by delivering market development plans to deliver future potential. Take the key responsibility for understanding the various strategies of customers and key industry players
  • Coach and mentor the team of account managers and specialists within your customer segment. Use your experience to guide teams through projects and opportunities and providing feedback

Experience Required

  • Proven track record of account management and strategic sales within similar industries
  • Experience in delivering accurate forecasting, budget planning and in-depth business reviews
  • Experience of utilising, manipulating and interpreting data in Excel
  • Experience of utilising and designing presentation slide decks
  • Proven experience of leading high level client and supplier meetings
  • Degree level achievement in a Scientific or Technical related area would be preferred but not essential
  • Full UK driving licence
