Lighthouse Lab Servicesis representing a hospital lab in Bostonthat is looking fora Laboratory Supervisor to oversee the overnight operations of their Hematology, Chemistry, Micro and Receiving sections! Sounds like something you'd be interested in? Then keep reading!

Key responsibilitiesfor this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinates the use of personnel and analytical systems to meet the service commitments of the Laboratory effectively and efficiently. This requires preparing written procedures for handling the flow of specimens and test information, directing performance of these procedures so that established reporting and billing schedules are met, and maintaining files so that laboratory information can be readily retrieved.
  • Interviews, selects, orients, schedules the work of, evaluates, and if necessary, disciplines technologists and support personnel engaged in performing testing.
  • Monitors the workload vs. staffing and recommends action to maintain productivity within acceptable limits.-In consultation with the Director of Operations and the Medical Director develops written laboratory policies and procedures for the division.
  • In consultation with the Director of Operations and the Medical Director, projects the payroll and operating expenses for the next fiscal year.
  • Maintains payroll and operation expenses within the agreed upon budget limits through: close control of overtime and part-time hours, monitoring productivity and taking action. Also monitors and insures the most cost-effective use of lab equipment, reagents, and supplies to keep non-payroll expenses at a minimum consistent with acceptable quality of results and service.
  • Recommends to the Director of Operations and to the medical Director, options in instrumentation, developing optimal methodology and materials and procedures for quality control -Develops protocols for carrying out evaluation of candidate test methods, instruments, and quality control materials and procedures, and directs the evaluations, including the recording of data and maintenance of records to document performance.-Answers inquiries about the technical aspects of laboratory results or testing, but refers questions relating to test interpretation, indications for testing, or medical management to the Director of Operations and to the Medical Director or to another physician. Handles problems relating to laboratory services directly, informing the Director when these appear to be serious.
  • Attends regular meetings, which include supervisory meetings, Quality assurance meetings, and general laboratory meetings. Also participates on various committees as directed by the Director of Operations and the Medical Director.-Oversees the instruction of Clinical Pathology Residents.-Performs all functions that are required for the laboratory to meet the standards specified by accrediting agencies such as JCAHO and CAP with respect to: written technical and administrative procedures and policies covering testing methodologies, operation and maintenance of instruments and equipment, quality control of testing and reporting, specimen collection and handling, personnel policies, safety, and quality assurance.-Maintains collaborative, team relationships with peers and colleagues in order to effectively contribute to the working groups achievement of goals, and to help foster a positive work environment-Performs other similar and job-related duties as required or directed.
Basic Preferred Profile:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences or
similar.

  • 4+ years of clinical laboratory experience required.
  • 2+ years of supervisory experience required
  • ASCP/AMT certification required.
  • Must have experience working in the following areas: Micro, Hematology and Chemistry.
  • Shift Time: Overnights, 11pm-7am
