Laundry Technician II position is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of commercial laundry equipment and performing complex laundry work in a commercial laundry. Laundry Technician II assists with overseeing the laundry process in the soil sort and dryer areas. Will promote team work while preforming all assigned tasks. Activities include sorting, classifying, weighing and recording of weights, loading/unloading of Continuous Batch Washer (CBW), press, shuttle, and large 300# dryers, 300# Lint Collector, small commercial washer/extractors and dryers, flatwork ironing, folding, preparing clothes and linens for delivery, delivery, and routine cleaning of work area / areas. Work involves both light and heavy physical labor. Employee will follow all HHSC, Facility, and Regional Laundry procedures for reporting time and attend work on a regular and predictable schedule performing all tasks as assigned. All tasks will be performed within the established time frames. Laundry Technician II works under the close supervision from the Laundry Worker III, Laundry Manager and Regional Laundry Director with minimum latitude for use of initiative and independent judgment. This position will occasionally work under close supervision of the Laundry Maintenance assisting with daily laundry preventative maintenance. Completion of work requires use of established methods and/or techniques. Decisions are simple and based on well-defined guidelines. The Laundry Technician II has no financial responsibility but is accountable for assigned property.
Performs other duties as assigned. Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency’s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.

Essential Job Functions:

Operation of the Continuous Batch Washer (CBW), Press, Shuttle, 4 300# Dryers and 300# Lint Collector.
Operation of washer and commercial washer/extractors: loading/unloading of proper weight for the machine being used and selecting the proper wash formula according to the degree of soil and type of articles being washed. Insuring articles are cleaned to the required specifications having a balance load, and safe efficient washing of materials processed.
Operate dryers: loading of the proper amount of linens, clothing, miscellaneous, setting the temperature, drying time, and cooling time of each machine to insure safe and efficient drying of materials processed.
Operation of the flat-work ironer: prepares ironer to be used by turning on steam at least one hour before using, start ironer at least 30 minutes before using. All flat work items that come from the washers are shaken out and fed through and neatly folded by the machine or by hand to ensure that all laundry arrives at the units in a clean and neat condition.
Performs pick-up, quota count, receiving and filling of orders, and delivery to units/departments to ensure continuity of service to the units served.
Folding linens by hand.
Attends and participates in all mandatory training in order to meet HHSC/NTSH requirements, maintain job competence, and develop professionally.
Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participates and / or serves in a supporting role to meet the agency's obligations for disaster response and / or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation.

Salary Note: The salary offered will follow HHS HR Policy starting salary guidelines which are typically made at or near the minimum of the salary range. For internal applicants, there can be limitations in consideration of applicant’s current classification and salary and is dependent upon available budget.
