Position Summary:

The Philadelphia Phillies are dedicated to the foundational and continued education of both our players and coaches. The Lead EFL Instructor will be dedicated to supporting our Minor League players and coaches thrive in their professional and personal lives through language education, secondary education, and continued education. The successful candidate will work closely with the rest of the Life Skills and Education Team to foster a positive educational environment and to develop and implement curricula and lesson plans that provide real-world language, high school and continued education to our Minor League players and coaches.

Responsibilities:

• Coordinate language and HS classes with player development to ensure that players are able to continue their education
• Develop creative and engaging lesson plans that support authentic language learning for both English and Spanish
• Teach English and Spanish classes to minor league players
• Support coordination of part time teaching staff to facilitate continued language and high school education
• Analyze and report player needs to the Education and Player Development staff
• Conduct pre-assessments, post-assessments, and one-on-one meetings with players to develop individual learning objectives
• Foster cross-cultural understanding and dialogue between diverse player and staff population
• Support continued education for players that are interested in starting college, continuing college or starting graduate school education
• Coordinate staff continued education and professional development through understanding of Philly supported programs

Required Qualifications:

• College degree
• Bilingual – English/Spanish
• Tutoring/teaching and classroom management experience
• Ability to develop creative solutions with limited supervision
• High level of demonstrated honesty, integrity, and professionalism
• Strong work ethic, communication, and organizational skills
• Ability to work irregular hours to meet needs of staff and students
• A passion for teaching and the ability to build a trusting relationship with players

Preferred Qualifications:

• Understanding of and passion for the game of baseball
• Additional language skills
• Experience working with out-of-school youth and other non-traditional students
