Lead Frontend Engineer Job at Macmillan Publishers
Macmillan Product Development team is looking for a Lead Front-end Engineer that will lead our front-end architecture and development of web applications and common components across the Macmillan custom web product portfolio. As a member of the Platform team, this candidate will take part in designing, building, and ensuring the quality and security of all platform products.
What you'll do:
- Build out Macmillan web products using React, working closely with the product management and design team to ensure effective and scalable internal and external SaaS products for Macmillan Publishers.
- Work closely with the Director of Product and SVP of Platform to maintain and improve upon our common components and platform architecture.
- Rapidly prototype interfaces to finalize an experience in the browser as well as build long-term scalable, maintainable, and performant production code.
- Write modular, performant, well-tested code through a fully Agile development process using the Macmillan platform practices and tools.
- Work with junior front-end team members, mentoring them and guiding them through proper execution of their tasks.
- Lead the front-end strategy for projects and make impactful decisions about the methodologies used across products.
- Write JavaScript using industry best practices as well as React components. Ability to use modern JavaScript build tools and techniques.
What you'll bring:
- Exceptional understanding of HTML and CSS including cross-browser compatibility and performance.
- Proficiency with the React JavaScript library and modern tools is a must.
- Experience with the entire Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
- Proven ability to transform a static design or mockup (low or high fidelity) into a functional app from the ground up using reusable components and patterns wherever possible.
- Experience in Asana and Invision or equivalent development and collaboration tools
- Solid communication skills: Demonstrated ability to explain complex technical issues to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Experience with unit testing; Test Driven Development (TDD)
- Being collaborative, self-motivated, and an "always-learning" person, excited to create great web experiences.
Ideal Experience:
- 5+ years professional experience with Front End engineering, web application development, web engineering
- 3+ years experience with JavaScript and React
- Experience building user-facing single-page applications
- Experience with coded style guides and creating highly componentized systems
- Experience leading a team for developers is preferable
- Experience with full-stack development is a plus
- Understanding of the publishing business is a plus, but not required
- Bachelor's (or equivalent working experience)
Salary range for this position is $160K - $165K.
