Scope:
This position is responsible for conducting routine testing of samples for the analytical laboratory, identifying pathogenic and non-pathogenic bacteria, reporting data and investigating out-of-spec results. The position will conduct routine testing and monitoring of USP water systems and clean suite, generate departmental standard operating procedures (SOP) and work instructions (WI) and run quality assays. This position is required to be familiar with basic plating, streaking, media types and aseptic techniques involved in laboratory work.

Primary Responsibilities/Accountabilities:
- Provide an intermediate level of microbiological support for raw materials, in-process, finished product testing and basic method development/validation.
- Provide support for ongoing microbial testing of USP water system.
- Provide support for release testing of media and organisms for use in the lab.
- Provide support for environmental monitoring programs.
- Perform data generation/trending and calibration procedures.
- Maintain accurate records per cGMP.
- Provide input for writing and revising laboratory guidelines and SOPs.
- Apply skills in scientific techniques and principles, problem solving, organization of work and cost savings.
- Comply with procedural guidelines, laboratory procedures and safety procedures.
- Provide guidance and training to laboratory employees.
- Other duties as assigned.
- BS in Microbiology/Chemistry or related sciences knowledge.
- Experience with gram stains, sub-culturing and identification of microorganisms and environmental monitoring.
- Experience with current practices and procedures used in microbiological and analytical laboratory.
- SAP experience, desired.
- Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office)
- Good understanding of FDA Good Manufacturing Practices Regulations (GMP’s) and OSHA safety requirements.
- Self-starter with strong work ethic.
- Strong communication (both written and oral), interpersonal, team building and organizational skills.
- Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and manage time efficiently and effectively.
- Ability to plan ahead to minimize potential issues as well as to meet company growth objectives
- Ability to perform professional, scientific laboratory work to insure conformity to company and customer requirements.
- Must be 18 years or older.
- Able to work overtime & weekends as required.
- Wear hairnet, safety glasses, long pants, steel toe shoes/boots and any other uniform standards.
- Read, comprehend and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Sit, bend, stoop, climb, and stand for long periods of time in one place.
- Lift items up to 50lbs
- Must be able to work weekends when required
