POSITION SPECIFIC SUMMARY: The Gifted and Talented Educator will lead a collaborative model with general education teachers, support specialists, and administrators working as a team to identify and serve gifted learners. Must be a strong team player, responsible for coordinating all aspects of differentiated programming to meet the needs of students who demonstrate potential for in-depth, and advanced academic work. Must have a solid foundation in gifted education, differentiated instruction, and collaboration with staff. Successful candidate will have a higher order of thinking skills and be familiar with the needs of gifted students.
ABOUT CHIEF LESCHI SCHOOLS: Formerly known as the Puyallup Tribal School, Chief Leschi Schools was founded in 1976 to address the high dropout rate of the youth of the Puyallup tribe. It is the largest of seven tribal schools in the state of Washington and one of approximately 200+ tribal schools in the United States. It is also one of the largest tribal schools to be funded by the Bureau of Indian Education.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
- Provides and is accountable for the planning, assessment, instruction, communication, human relations, safety, and management of a classroom or assigned instructional setting.
- Facilitate the Gifted Identification Process at the school/site.
- Recognize the learning and developmental differences of students with gifts and talents, promote ongoing self-understanding, awareness of their needs, and cognitive and affective growth of these students in school, home, and community settings to ensure specific student outcomes.
- Counsel students to encourage and support student achievement as appropriate.
- Provided targeted and intensive interventions for identified gifted learners individually and in groups, using various teaching methods (e.g., lectures, technology, discussions) when appropriate.
- Participate in continuing professional development to address specific needs of the gifted and talented population and collaborate in the facilitation of professional development for classroom teachers in meeting the needs of gifted learners and their families.
- Facilitate and maintain accountability for the implementation of all rules and regulations pursuant to the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Bureau of Indian Education (BIE), OSPI, and Chief Leschi Schools policies and procedures for gifted education.
- Facilitate the creation and maintenance of Individual Education Plan (IEP) for all identified gifted learners at the site.
- Collaborate/consult with teachers and staff to design and implement instruction based on formal and informal assessments of student abilities, talents, interests, and needs.
- Collaborate/consult with teachers and staff to differentiate instruction by teaching higher-level thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills and identifying and sharing learning resources that support higher level thinking skills in all areas.
- Collaborate/consult with teachers and staff to use appropriate assessment information in instructional planning, implementation, and evaluation of student learning, including the development of the Individual Education Plan (IEP) for all students.
- Communicates clearly, both orally and in writing.
- Creates an effective environment for learning through positive student interactions.
- Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals; establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects and communicates these objectives to students.
- Regularly communicates with parents and/or guardians through conferences, phone calls, grade updates and other means to discuss student progress.
- Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities.
- Works effectively with para-educators and other staff members.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with proper endorsement(s)
Successful teaching and/or student-teaching experience at the PK-12 level
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
One-year teaching experience working as a full-time certificated employee
National Board Certification
Current or recent experience working with Native Americans or other similar diverse populations
Master's degree in G/T or curriculum & instruction preferred.
CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:
Successful criminal background clearance
Successful and/or clear drug screening
Must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 before hire

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
