Position Summary
The Library Page is an entry level position responsible for accurate re-shelving of library books and media in all areas of the library, and for maintaining stacks by shifting materials and shelf-reading to ensure accurate material placement.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required to proficiently perform the job
Knowledge: Comprehend simple verbal instructions and recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers
Skills: Manual dexterity in sorting & shelving books.
Abilities: Comprehend simple verbal instructions and recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Alphabetize and learn how to put items in Dewey Decimal order. Apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions.
Interaction with Groups/Agencies/Entities: Internal: Works with supervisory staff and library clerks on routine tasks and assignments. Maintains harmonious, courteous, and understanding relationships, while fostering a collaborative teamwork environment. External: Answers routine questions from customers in a courteous and efficient manner.
Authorities and Accountabilities
Level of independent decision making: Minimal-incumbent primarily carries-out instructions and follows established procedures
Budgetary/Financial/Asset accountability: None - Position has no accountability for, or authority to make, budgetary or financial decisions.
Span of control: Responsibility for own work (no supervision or leadership expectations)
Essential Functions

- Responsible for the accurate re-shelving of library books and media, in all areas of the library
- Maintains stacks by shifting materials and shelf-reading to ensure accurate material placement
- Collects/and shelves “overflow materials”.
- Empties book drop bins as necessary
- Keeps reading rooms neat and orderly
- Sorts recently checked-in materials and places them in Dewey Decimal or alphabetical order on carts for re-shelving.
- Looks through recently returned books to check for damaged items
- Acts as backup as needed for Circulation Desk duties
- Sets up and puts away furniture for library programs
- May be scheduled/required to work nights and weekends.
