Overview
The Security Department is responsible for the safety and protection of our staff, patrons and library assets. The Security Coordinator is used to cover gaps in operations, such as supervisors being out on vacation, as well as coverage for special events.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Security Manager, the Library Security Coordinator will:

- Enforce compliance by staff and the public of Library rules and regulations regarding security.
- Covers for short periods of times in the absence of the security supervisor and/or assistant supervisor
- Provide security presence at special events, including private screenings, parties, etc.
- Write comprehensive reports of incidents to assist with investigations and documentation of incidents.
- May be assigned to perform related duties at any NYPL facility.
- Assists in the supervision of contractual guard services to insure compliance.
- Performs related duties as required.
Required Education, Experience & Skills
Required Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Police Science, or Security Management and substantial security supervisor experience: or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Skills
- Successfully demonstrated experience providing instruction in security in a formal classroom setting.
- Substantial knowledge of New York State penal code and local laws.
- Knowledge of Security Guard Act 1994.
- Successfully demonstrate knowledge of the operations of electronic security systems including CCTV, computerized card access, and fire protection systems.
- Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills including successfully demonstrated ability to produce clear, concise factual reports.
- Demonstrated computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Police Science, or Security Management
- Successfully demonstrated experience managing security during small and large scale events
- FSD/EAP certification
