Harris County Public Library (HCPL) - History What began in 1921 and the years following as a collection of small libraries housed in stores, post offices and private homes has grown into a system of 26 branch buildings, 2 technology service centers, and 2 partner locations offering collection/circulation services. HCPL operates branches in unincorporated parts of Harris County and cities which do not have their own library systems.
Library Technician (La Porte Branch Library) Overview: This position is responsible for the end-to-end customer service experience by connecting customers with the information they seek. Perform circulation tasks. Support innovative programs. Demonstrate knowledge on all library operations and deliver an exceptional customer service experience. Exemplify the high standards and expectations for the library system in its daily operations and services.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide customer service and manage customer accounts using the integrated library system software in the library and during outreach events
- Basic reference service in the library and during outreach events
- Promote library services to the community
- Accurately enter data, handle sensitive customer information, and handle cash transactions
- Maintain and promote an engaging and attractive library collection
- Attend staff meetings, activities, and/or professional conferences, and actively serve on committees

Education:
- High School diploma or GED equivalency
- One (1) year of customer service experience
- Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Excellent communication skills (verbal & written)
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and foster teamwork in a diverse environment
- Ability to work well with public and staff members
- Proficient with social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.)
- Proficient with the Internet and Office 365
- Must use your personal mobile device for our Multifactor Authentication process
