SUMMARY: Under general direction of the building principal, with lead direction from the Director of Student Services, provides The Licensed Practical Nurse provides health related services for students. The LPN demonstrates competency in providing direct nursing care to students as delegated by a Registered Nurse. S/he maintains records as required by State statute and Chief Leschi Schools’ policy.


ABOUT CHIEF LESCHI SCHOOLS:
Formerly known as the Puyallup Tribal School, Chief Leschi Schools was founded in 1976 to address the high dropout rate of the youth of the Puyallup tribe. It is the largest of seven tribal schools in the state of Washington and one of approximately 200+ tribal schools in the United States. It is also one of the largest tribal schools to be funded by the Bureau of Indian Education.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following:

  • Accompanies technology dependent students to and from school when medical status is considered at risk for life threatening event during transport; uses skilled nursing judgment.
  • Performs standard physical health care procedures; tests and records vision, weight, hearing, scoliosis, and immunization status of students.
  • Provides health and nutrition education to children and parents in coordination with other staff.
  • Assists with the identification, prevention, and control of communicable diseases; observes universal precautions at all times.
  • Assembles, organizes, and maintains student health records, files, and supplies.
  • Coordinates District and community services for students with para-educators, volunteers, school nurse, and building administrator.
  • Administers first aid, CPT, and emergency care to students who are sick or injured; notifies school nurse, administrator, and parents, as required. Completes accident and suspected child abuse reports, as required.
  • Administers prescription and non-prescription medicine as prescribed by health care professional or parents; maintains daily log.
  • Attends training related to students medical treatment needs.
  • Performs other related functions, as requested.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma or equivalent

Washington State license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse

First aid and CPR Card


CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:

Maintain a successful background investigation

Successful and/or clear drug screening

  • Must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 prior to hire


KNOWLEDGE OF:

School board policies and procedures

Principles of nursing and medical terminology

Principles and practices of aseptic/sterile techniques and infectious disease control

Care and maintenance of medical supplies and equipment

Both normal and abnormal anatomy, physiology, psycho/social, and disease entities

First aid and CPR

Work under pressure; adjust to varied situations, demands, and new health issues

Learn and integrate policies and procedures adopted by the Schools’, and the State of Washington

Communicate effectively verbally and in writing

Work collaboratively with school and central office administrators, parents, and community members

Demonstrate understanding of and experience with cultural competence

Comply with school board policies and follow administrative procedures
