SIGN-ON BONUS - The Line Cleaning and Inspection Crew Member and Trainees hired on or after February 1, 2022, are eligible for a $1,000 sign-on bonus to be paid in two increments. Employee will receive $500 after successful completion of New Employee Orientation. The employee must be employed when the incentive is paid, and it will be paid on the first pay date following the pay period in which it was earned. Employee will receive $500 after successful completion of their first six months of employment. Employee must be employed when bonus is paid, and it will be paid on the first pay date following the pay period in which it was earned.
The job duties of the Line Cleaning and Inspection Crew Member I (Job Grade 13.13) may include the following:
Under limited and indirect supervision completes a variety of routine, semi-skilled, skilled, and manual tasks in the completion of wastewater collection system cleaning and inspection; works on an assigned crew providing assistance and support for a variety of routine and non-routine labor tasks, such as pulling hoses, setting up traffic control for work sites; removing debris from sewer lines; determining what materials are needed and how best to set-up equipment for the work completed, preparing materials and tools, cleaning holding tanks, sewer lines, and other areas using high pressure hoses, saw blades, and other equipment, and taking inventory of materials on a work truck; assists with more complex specialty crew work in the operation of the jet vac truck, CCTV truck, or other related equipment; provides training and support to other staff in more routine work functions and assists with other training for new employees.
Operates a variety of vehicles, light medium and heavy duty equipment, and tools; follows established safety protocols for completion of safety sensitive work, such as wearing required personal protective equipment and following guidelines and directions for confined space entries; carries on-call phone or pager and responds to emergency and afterhours calls for service to address routine emergency requests as the subject matter expert or assist other staff with more complex and less routine calls.
Enters data into maintenance and other tracking systems; completes routine preventative maintenance as well as preventative maintenance of a more complex nature; responds to customer service inquiries and escalates more complex questions or concerns to a crew leader or supervisor; understands how to safely operate equipment, such as a Jet Truck and occasionally takes truck out as active crew leader.

- Operates a limited variety of light duty equipment, and tools; follows established safety protocols for completion of safety sensitive work, such as wearing required personal protective equipment and following guidelines and directions for confined space entries.

Line Cleaning and Inspection Crew Member I (Job Grade 13.13)
High school diploma or equivalent and a Class B CDL with air brake and tanker endorsement; and an acceptable driving record are required. One year of experience with light, medium, or heavy-duty equipment is preferred.
Line Cleaning and Inspection Trainee (Job Grade 12.12)
High school diploma or equivalent and a regular driver’s license with an acceptable driving record are required. This is a temporary trainee position with a maximum employment duration of three months for full-time employment. Trainees must obtain their Class B CDL with air brake and tanker endorsement within three months in order to continue employment as a Line Cleaning and Inspection Crew Member I. One year of experience with light, medium, or heavy-duty equipment is preferred.
Johnson County Government requires reference/background screening for all positions. Specified criteria may vary by Department/Agency.
