Key Job Elements:

Minimum duties and responsibilities:

  • SAFETY: Comply with company and federal safety rules, policies and procedures to include wearing required safety equipment, responding to and acting on safety concerns;
  • FABRICATION: Fabricate, cut, shape, and modify items utilizing various methods (e. g. seaming, riveting, brazing, or welding). Utilize pipe threaders, pipe bending, pipe coupling, sheet metal brakes, shears, snaps, metal cutting saws, drills, wire feed welders, oxygen / acetylene cutting torches, and repair various components of locomotives;
  • INSPECTION AND REPAIR: Inspect and properly repair piping on the following locomotive systems: air brakes, exhaust system, lube oil, cooling water, air compressor, radiator, and fuel system. Install, disassemble/assemble, and repair/replace locomotive and diesel engine components;
  • Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA);
  • Build, erect, assemble, install, dismantle, and maintain parts made of copper, brass, tin, zinc, white/black metal of 10 gauge and lighter, including brazing, soldering, tinning and leading;
  • Bend, fit, cut, thread, braze, connect and disconnect air, water, gas, oil and steam pipes;
  • Conduct other Mechanical repairs and fabrication of locomotives and locomotive components;
  • Follow QWI’s, schematics and blueprints;
  • Utilize equipment and tools accurately and safely such as roll-overs forklifts, cranes and other mechanical equipment;
  • Move locomotives.

Advanced duties and responsibilities:

  • Train other Pipefitters and Airbrake repairmen.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Welding experience (either on-the-job or technical training);
  • Mechanical aptitude.

Preferred Skills:

  • Two years combined sheet metal, fabrication, and/or pipefitting experience;
  • One years’ experience in Flux Core Arc Welding (FCAW).
