The School Counselor/Guidance Counselor will provide services to students to enhance their emotional well-being and improve academic performance. This position is accountable for the delivery of casework services to students: to identify a students needs and to make use of internal (school) and community resources to help bring about positive change so the student can function at their fullest potential in the school and community. This position will maintain a caseload of students to advise for all academic planning.GENERAL DUTIES: Provides social/emotional support to students and direct services to students on their assigned caseloadCreate and implement a program involving peer mediation, conflict resolution, and/or restorative practicesServes as a liaison between classroom teachers, counselors, administration, outside agencies, parents, and studentsCollaborates and coordinates with administrators and staff to develop and modify individualized behavior programming, as necessaryWorks effectively with the district BCBAs, School Psychologists, and Guidance CounselorsSeeks out and implements evidence-based counseling techniques to deliver short-term counseling interventions to resolve immediate conflicts problems; intervene in student-specific situations that disrupt learning in order for re-entry to the classroom environmentSupports re-entry from hospitalization due to social/emotional difficulties, medically fragile (i.e. concussion), long-term medical absencesParticipate in IEP and 504 meetings to support individual student learningServe on the Instructional Support Team and Crisis TeamEngages in consistent and timely two-way communication with the parents/guardians to keep them apprised of student progress and gather feedback and information to support student learning and well-beingMaintains data on students academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and makes recommendations for services as neededProvides support to school personnel regarding student engagement, cultural diversity, and the delivery of educational strategies to students who have multiple risk factors (at risk for dropout)?Supports a college and career-ready culture within group counseling or individual sessions that promote equity and access by supporting all students to prepare for, participate in, and succeed in rigorous academic programsParticipation in the facilitation of all school-wide testing (MCAS, AP, PSAT, SAT, Panorama)Facilitate training and workshops for students, teachers, school staff, and parentsOther duties as assigned by the Superintendent, Principal, and/or Assistant Principal
