Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN)
Bay Area PLS is a mobile phlebotomy company providing professional blood draws, vaccinations and Covid-19 testing to individuals in the comfort of their own homes, as well as entities such as medical research companies, home health agencies, government agencies, and many more.
We take pride in providing patient care as efficiently and painlessly as possible, while complying with all safety rules and regulations and preserving the integrity of all samples for delivery to the testing laboratory.
Position Description:
- Assist in providing direction, consultation, coordination, and review of the work of paraprofessional staff on the team; Precept nursing and medical assistant students.
- Basic understanding of human anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology. General knowledge of various medical procedures, views, and equipment.
- Competent and validated in basic Nursing skills:
- Perform intake and baseline assessment, to include vital signs as needed, of all clients before administering treatments
- Administering injections for all age groups (infants to geriatric)
- Performing testing including but not limited to COVID-19, HIV, A1C, and Chemistry testing using various collection methods.
- Ability to interpret positive, negative and inconclusive results and enter said results with great attention to detail into EMR systems.
- Ability to interpret a variety of data and instructions, furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Demonstrate proficiency in medication (to include vaccines) handling, dosage, and administration with minimal oversight
- Ability to train on transportation of medications including vaccine in accordance with policy
- Must have the ability to function independently and as a member of an interdisciplinary team; ability to exercise independent, sound nursing judgment in planning and providing patient care.
- Initiating, monitoring, and documenting intramuscular (IM) injections and intravenous (IV) therapy for clients with a range of health issues.
- Recognize and respond to potential medical emergencies related to allergies, anaphylaxis, respiratory difficulties, and other medical emergencies as they arise.
- Greet patients/clients, register, and provide information related to services within scope of practice
- Maintain procedural awareness (with the company and testing laboratories) by always using current reference documents and reviewing all written procedures, updates and memos as they are provided.
- Knowledge of basic safety and infection control principles. Ability to follow infection control guidelines.
- Dispose of biological waste materials and related hazardous materials in accordance with applicable laws and best practices by always using equipment safety devices and appropriate disposal containers (such as needle safety devices and sharps containers).
- Prepare, handle, and maintain records, as well as perform related clinical and administrative services in observance of HIPAA laws and patient confidentiality best practices.
- Perform administrative duties such as preparation of reports, the storage and maintenance of clinical and administrative supplies.
- Perform other tasks that are reasonable and consistent with the position
- Communicate with medical, clinical, and technical staff to resolve problems regarding specimens quickly and completely as they arise.
- Employee tasks and responsibilities for studies will vary according to the client’s specific needs and agreements contracted with the company
- Report directly to Provider/Nurse Lead on site and Clinical RN Manager
- During your employment, questions regarding on the job procedures or issues may be directed urgently via phone call.
Education:
- Active and current unrestricted California LVN License
- May be hired as Graduate Student LVN if recent graduate of LVN program but not yet taken/passed NCLEX exam
- May be hired as Interim LVN if have taken the NCLEX exam and has Interim Permit
- Graduate from accredited LVN program
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS)/Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association (AHA)
Additional qualifications
- This is a mobile role, frequent travel to and between job sites is required
- Ability to be scheduled consistent hours is dependent upon your ability to work in various locations surrounding the Bay Area, specifically San Francisco, San Mateo, and Alameda Counties
- To remain in an active status, the position requires a minimum of two shifts per week
- If you accept a work assignment, then for any reason believe that you may not be able to arrive at the requested job location by the scheduled time you must IMMEDIATELY contact Manager on Call via phone. Such incidences are considered emergencies and require timely notification of Management
- Experience in managing a multidisciplinary clinical team preferred
- Bi-lingual strongly preferred.
- Minimum one (1) year clinical experience preferred
- At least 6 months of clinical experience required
- IV Certification and experience as well as ability to adapt to changing protocols
- Pediatric Experience especially as it relates to administration of IM injections
- Exude a high level of professionalism with the ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Must be willing to initiate tasks and perform duties without direction.
- Must be able to handle a very fast paced mobile, and challenging environments; able to step in to help wherever it is needed.
- Ability to work daytime hours, flexibility may be required to meet staffing needs.
- Working days are variable and offered seven (7) days a week.
- Light to moderate lifting (up to fifty pounds) is required.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups or patients, center staff, and the general public.
- Familiar with or able to become familiar with computer software programs such as G-Suite, PrimaryBio, O365, & Electronic Medical Records systems
- Must have reliable transportation, a valid California Driver’s License, and proof of liability and property damage insurance on the vehicle used is required.
