Team or Function Overview
The maintenance department is responsible for all aspects of repairing the roofing production line and associated equipment. The maintenance machinist fills a vital role in assisting with the design, fabrication, and installation of machine components.
Summary
GAF is seeing a skilled and precise manual Machinist to join our maintenance team. This employee will be responsible for setting up and operating machinery for fabricating, altering, and repairing machine parts, equipment, and tools. The ideal candidate will be able to work under minimal supervision.
Essential Duties
Perform routine repairs and troubleshooting of plant machinery and equipment. - Interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerance of finished workpiece. Developes sequence of operations and set up of operations requirements to complete parts.
- Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or work piece.
- Ability to set up and operate to tolerances a manual lathe, drill press, and manual mills. - Works from blueprints, process sheets and sketches to perform Machinist product tasks.
- Ability to calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, depth and angle of cut to established guidelines and procedures. - Confers with engineers, maintenance, and production to repair and fabricate damaged or new machine components as required.
- Participate in company safe work procedures such as lock out / tag out, confined space, pre-job brief program and shift safety meetings.
- Work in a neat and orderly manner and be responsible for safety and good housekeeping at all times.
- Ability to layout and machine parts to close tolerances.
- Proficient in the use of precision measuring tools.
- Other duties may be assigned.
- Ability to successfully work in a team environment including production, maintenance, and engineering.
- Ability to clearly communicate through written and verbal communication with co-workers and supervisors.
Physical Demands
- Capable of performing field work including standing, walking, climbing stairs, and bending over up to 7 hours a day.
Under This Roof, We Require
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.
- 3+ years experience operating manual machining equipment.
