Reporting to the Facility Maintenance Supervisor, this position is responsible for performing preventive and routine corrective maintenance tasks and ensuring that assigned systems, equipment and facilities are maintained in a safe and efficient manner at a multi-custody level correctional facility. Job responsibilities include; but are not limited to, the following:

Possessing multiple trade skills to allow individual to deal with a variety of maintenance tasks that will be dealt with on a routine basis, such as emergency generators, gate operators, plumbing systems, electrical systems, and security doors.

• Preparing preventive maintenance reports and maintaining inventory of repair parts.
• Functioning at two journey levels, one for mechanical/plumbing and the other preferably HVAC/refrigeration while performing at the semi-skilled and unskilled level in other trades.
• Supervising semi-skilled and unskilled labor, including offenders to assist in completing tasks.
• Following oral and written instructions.
• Performing heavy physical tasks for extended periods of time.
• Understanding and working from sketches or penciled drawings.
• Reading and interpreting building codes and blueprints.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits with established working hours of Monday-Friday, 8am to 5pm and may require working beyond normal work schedule to meet business need.

Note to Current State Employees:
The salary grade for this position is NC09 (Salary Range: $37,577 - $65,760). State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two (2) years of progressive experience in the assigned trade areas; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Special Qualification*: May require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart F.
