    Job Title: Maintenance Specialist
    Kent ISD Facilities
    Full Time Year Round, 260 days

    Maintains the assigned District’s property in excellent operating condition and provides the necessary ability to keep assigned buildings safe, functional and secure in accordance with prescribed codes and established District Policies and standards.

    Essential Job Qualifications Required:
    • Necessary knowledge, skills, and experience to complete work in an efficient manner
    • Ability to operate, maintain, and make adjustment to various types of equipment as needed
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and community
    • Effectively communicate in both written and spoken English language
    • High school diploma or GED
    • Possess a valid Michigan’s drivers license, CDL preferred
    • Certification and/or license in electrical preferred
    • Ability to accepts and learn new processes, technology, or techniques
    • Ability to meet physical demands of the position
    • Desire 5 years of experience in electrical repair
    • Ability to operate and maintain all district equipment; vehicles, mowers, heavy equipment, and any task-specific equipment
    • Expectation of continual improvement in skill development through training and workshops, seminars, or conferences.
    Physical Demands:
    Must be able to perform all of the following:
    • regularly requires the ability to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, high probability of contact with Blood-Borne Pathogens materials in course of daily work, and talk or hear;
    • frequently requires the ability to reach with hands and arms, squat, stoop or kneel, reach above the head and reach forward and bend or twist at the neck and trunk more than the average person; lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, such as cleaning supplies, packing and unloading trucks;
    • occasionally requires the ability to sit; lift and/or move 80 pounds, such as salt and furniture; and push/pull items such as tables, bleachers, scrubbing machines, etc.; and
    • continuously requires the ability to use hand strength to grasp tools and climb onto ladders.
    • specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
    Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Installs, maintains and repairs District facilities with special emphasis on heating, cooling, ventilation, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration and related mechanical and electrical components. Area of emphasis will be determined by skills, certifications, licenses and experiences.
    • Receives instructions regarding duties from Maintenance/Facilities Supervisor, verbally or in writing.
    • Prepares, maintains and provides services necessary for events and activities.
    • Makes routine repairs and/or reports needed repairs to Maintenance/Facilities Supervisor.
    • Cleans and maintains work spaces/vehicles in a professional manner.
    • Projects a positive image of the District whenever in contact with the public, guests, or visitors on or off school property.
    • Works closely with the Supervisor - Custodial, Maintenance/Facilities Supervisor, and Director - Facilities in preparing for scheduled and unscheduled activities.
    • Works closely with the maintenance team to provide excellent service throughout the District.
    • Maintains buildings and grounds security by securing doors and windows of the building each school day, during special events or when directed.
    • Maintains work related records and prepares various reports as directed.
    • Performs such yard chores as grass cutting, tree trimming, snow shoveling and salting of walks and drives as needed and takes responsibility for waste removal as requested to maintain the school grounds in a safe, clean, and attractive condition.
    • Repairs and reports hazardous conditions or damage to the building or grounds immediately to the Maintenance/Facilities Director or Director – Facilities.
    • Needs to be on call for emergency repairs, overtime, or special needs falling outside of the normal working hours.
    • Completes daily work and duties by accommodating the students, parents, administration, and staff.
    • Possesses a basic understanding of Board policies and Administrative Guidelines, District emergency procedures, school public relations, and the role and function of public schools in the community.
    • Performs all duties and procedures within the health safety standards as per OSHA and/or MIOSHA.
    • Takes responsibility for other duties as assigned by the Maintenance/Facilities Director and/or Director - Facilities.

    Salary: Classified Wage Grade 5, commensurate with experience (Step 1 = $23.53, Step 4 = $27.07)
