About the role
We are looking for a Manager Learning and Development to join HR operations team and lead a team of learning professionals and advisers to achieve the objectives of Rio Tinto Kennecott Copper.
As Manager Learning and Development you will be responsible to develop strategies which supports skills and competency development at Rio Tinto Kennecott Copper to ensure safety, operations, and career progression.

- Designing and implementing effective learning pathways for Copper operation.
- Collaborating with a variety of internal stakeholders, spanning all levels across the operations, human resources, safety and compliance and other global team
- Partnering with external educational and training technology vendors to develop partnership and collaboration to leverage best practices and technologies to support Rio Tinto Kennecott Copper operations.
- Translating business strategy into workforce development needs
- Ensuring the L&D programs support diversity targets and critical skill and deliver workforce development initiatives.
- Planning, approving and monitoring L&D related costs.
What you’ll bring
To succeed in the role you will have:
- A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
- A tertiary level qualification in a related field
- A seasoned HR background with extensive working experience in Learning and development
- Experience in HR training systems and processes
- A passion for understanding the business in which you operate, and collaborating within a large, global organization
- Personnel management – experience of leading and developing large team
- Experience in developing, planning and implementing learning strategies
- Experience in process improvements
- Proven ability to engage, influence and collaborate with senior leadership teams

Where you will be working
Our Kennecott mine is a world-class, fully integrated copper mining operation, including a concentrator, smelter and refinery, located just outside Salt Lake City, Utah, in the United States. We produce copper, precious metals including gold and silver, molybdenum and sulfuric acid. Kennecott has been mining and processing minerals from the rich ore body of the Bingham Canyon Mine since 1903 and is one of the top producing mines in the world, comprising approximately 11 percent of U.S. annual copper production.
