Job Summary:


Manufacturing methods and processes are established and reviewed to minimize total cost and improve quality and productivity. New capital equipment requirements are analyzed, installed, and their proper use is documented and instructed. New product designs are reviewed for manufacturing.


Roles and Responsibilities:


  • Establish methods and processes to minimize cost while maximizing productivity and quality.

  • Analyze capital equipment needs with respect to new technologies and business needs. Investigate, plan, and implement such capital projects.

  • Review new product designs for manufacturability.

  • Analyze labor variances to control planned costs via process information and enhancements.

  • Create shop floor router spelling out standard times for jobs tied to quoted amounts

  • Analysis router plans to actual and develop improvement plans for “griefed” areas

  • Translate Design Engineering data into applicable processes.

  • Conduct make vs. buy analyses.

  • Assist, as required, Process Engineering in reviewing customer special requirements and generate appropriate processes and methods to successfully accommodate and implement.

  • Trouble-shoot and resolve manufacturing operating problems.

  • Perform technical evaluations of vendors and equipment.

  • Generate technical and economic justifications for the implementation of new processes, methods, and equipment.

  • Work with the Purchasing Department to generate the applicable purchase agreement contracts for capital projects.

  • Develop product tooling and fixturing concepts for communication with the tool designer.

Reporting directly to Operations Leader, this position is concerned with all areas of manufacturing and the accomplishment of short to long-term process and methods improvement. The priority is the investigation and implementation of corresponding manufacturing improvements. In addition, daily production issues in terms of shop floor problems production schedule are requirements of this position. Efforts are directed to the analysis of existing conditions and the implementation of time and cost savings and quality improvements.


The incumbent works closely with Engineers (Design, Process, CAM, Quality Assurance, and Tool Design), Manufacturing Managers/Supervisors, the hourly Production workforce, Buyers, and Vendors in the research and implementation of capital improvement projects and shop floor issues. Interfacing with Production Control and Purchasing is necessary to act on make vs. buy decisions, and to control capital equipment purchases. Consultation with other Manufacturing Engineer, Tool Design Engineer/Designers, and Quality Assurance Engineers is inherently accomplished in the pursuit of any manufacturing improvement.


There is a direct relation between the incumbent and the Production Supervisor and his reports to support the direction of the work, training, of new processes or equipment and in support of specific problems that arise.


Qualifications:


BS technical degree or experience in lieu of degree along with three (3) to five (5) years of manufacturing experience in a heavy industrial environment, excellent communication, planning, and analytical skills are a critical. Familiarity with current peripherals (business system, personal computers) and MRP concepts is essential.
