Job Summary
Epigenetics - in particular genomic methylation - is widely recognized as playing a crucial role in disease and there is growing momentum to understand both the biological role of methylation as well as to mine its potential as a biomarker. Oxford Nanopore's sequencing technology provides a powerful, single-molecule readout of methylation with advantages over alternative methods. The successful candidate in the Technology Markets Manager role for methylation will be in the exciting position of leading global marketing strategy to generate growth of direct methylation analysis using Oxford Nanopore's sequencing solutions. The successful candidate will also develop key customer relationships, support sales activation in this market and guide key customer initiatives developing the methylation/epigenetics market into a strategic value driver for the company.
You will be in the key role of developing strategic external relationships to support expansion of novel Nanopore sequencing applications as well as working with internal developers to meet evolving customer needs. Strong knowledge of the current methylation sequencing and array markets will be critical to success in this role. Successful candidates will be inquisitive, current on the driving forces in the field, and comfortable closely supporting customers' scientific research and publications.
Candidates will also collaborate closely with other teams across the company including commercial marketing, product marketing, marketing operations, market intelligence, product management, sales and support and applications development teams.
Key Characteristics
The successful candidate will work in a growing Technology Markets team within the Segment Marketing that focuses on innovative and emerging applications of Oxford Nanopore's sequencing technology like direct methylation detection and analysis and have the following characteristics.
- Science degree and 5+ years sales, commercial or marketing experience in genomics/sequencing. Preferred: MS, Ph.D with technical experience either in research or commercial roles (for example, product management or FAS)
- Ability and motivation to develop the strategy to grow adoption of Oxford Nanopore's methylation solutions and other emerging applications and lead implementation of this program.
- Understanding of the end-to-end methylation solutions for human genetics
- Development of sales tools and product positioning in the methylation market.
- Skillful collaboration with internal and external teams to define and deliver end-to-end solutions in key market segments. This will include identifying techniques and applications, key opinion leaders, product gaps, and strategic market opportunities to support the segment strategy as well as collaborating closely with the Segment Marketing Managers where emerging techniques interface with specific market segments.
- Deep knowledge of genomic technologies, research applications, and how ONT can uniquely address the needs of research scientists around the world in the life science research tools market.
- Effectively communicate and present to technical and senior/executive audiences
- Assimilate complex detail into concise, high-quality presentations and marketing material
- Self-manage day to day priorities and work
Key responsibilities include:
- Identify market needs and trends and opportunities in methylation and epigenetics for Oxford Nanopore's technologies to meet these needs.
- Develop a global strategy to grow utilization of methylation and other emerging technologies utilizing Oxford Nanopore products
- Collaborate with the broader Marketing Team to understand customer needs and behaviors, in order to develop messaging for the target audience, for marketing campaigns
- Identify and develop customer success stories that can be used to increase uptake of new techniques and technologies.
- Develop value propositions for key emerging techniques and work with Marketing Operations, Commercial and Product Marketing Teams to refine sales messaging
- Work with the Applications and R&D teams to understand the upcoming technical capabilities being evaluated and developed that could be applied to new or existing applications.
- Provide training on emerging techniques for internal teams including sales, TS/FAS
- Collaborate with Segment Marketing Managers to maximize segment growth by effectively leveraging emerging techniques.
- Partner with stakeholders across Marketing to develop segment-specific strategies and positioning for new product introductions and on-market portfolio across key application areas.
- Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the techniques that you support. Present at key global conferences in your market segment, and work with marketing program manager, regional marketing, and event coordinators to define strategy and plan for appropriate marketing activities
- Collect feedback from customers & internal stakeholders, analyzing market data and Voice of Customer (VOC) data to create segment specific sales and customers enablement tools
To Be Successful in This Role, You Must Have
- Ability to identify key priorities and work strategically and efficiently within a global team
- Insight to develop global marketing strategy and ability to justify this strategy to senior executives
- Ability to build strong working relationships with senior external and internal stakeholders
- Ability to create and present effective marketing materials and influence internal and external audiences
- Ability to travel up to 40% of the time.

The salary for this role is between $140,000 and $210,000 USD. The salary offered will reflect the skills and experience of the candidate. .
Certain roles within ONT are eligible annual bonus and stock. These awards are allocated based on individual performance.
