DESCRIPTION

The UC San Diego Department of OB/GYN and Reproductive Sciences is composed of 66 faculty, 15 clinical fellows, 26 residents, and over 200 department staff members. The department has 7 divisions: Obstetrics and Gynecology, Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Gynecologic Oncology, Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, Hospitalist, Complex Family Planning and Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery. It has multiple clinical programs including the growing Maternal Mental Health Program. The department is ranked 3rd nationally in research funding compared to other OB-GYN Programs. This includes funding from the National Institutes of Health, NSF, CIRM, CDPH and other private institutions.

In partnership with Department and the Women and Infants Service Line leadership, this position will support the Maternal Mental Health Program. Manage referrals (average 100-150 a month). Meet with Program Directors weekly to triage and assess acuity of referrals to schedule with appropriate providers, educate referred patients and referring clinicians about the program and close the loop with referring providers

Liaison with Call center and program clinic site leads (Medical Offices South, Villa La Jolla, Outpatient Psychiatry La Jolla, Director’s Place, REI). Keep them informed regarding new patient referrals and current patients by maintaining active program patient list. Independently manage all aspects of insurance coverage and authorization responsibilities. This includes project anticipated costs for patients, verification of patient mental health benefits, request pre-authorizations provide clinical information/justification for enrollment. Communicate with insurance case manager as needed. Assist with patient discharge planning from the program and liaison with referring sources and providers at discharge.

Applies acquired skills and clinical and operational knowledge of ambulatory care clinics to coordinate aspects of clinic operations of intermediate scope and complexity. Monitors daily clerical activities, billing, and other operational services for a clinic in the medical center.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Six (6) years of related experience, education/training, OR an Bachelor’s degree in related area plus two (2) years of related experience/training.

  • Familiarity of clinic medical billing practices including coding, billing systems and documentation requirements. Knowledge of ambulatory care clinic practice management including patient care workflows and processes. Demonstrated understanding of medical terminology and clinical knowledge of clinic practice area.

  • Working knowledge of medical center policies and procedures and related legislative, accreditation, licensing and compliance environments.

  • Strong communication skills; includes verbal, written and active listening. Ability to clearly and concisely communicate clinic rules and regulations.

  • Effective interpersonal skills with diverse staff and patients. Demonstrated ability to develop working relationships within clinical team.

  • Proven organizational skills and the ability to effectively manage time and prioritize tasks. Takes initiative. Ability to meet tight deadlines and manage several projects simultaneously, respond rapidly to conflicting priorities, and handle tasks with high degree of accuracy.

  • Ability to perform all commonly applicable functions in word processing and spreadsheet software. Skills in data management. Ability to use relevant healthcare and clinic operations information technology, including billing systems and medical record documentation.

  • Demonstrated data analysis, research, and reporting skills.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $43,900 - $91,900 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $21.02 - $44.01

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
