The Mechanical Engineer takes responsibility for every facet of product development, providing technical program support throughout the entire product lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Performs mechanical design activities and provides technical expertise from product concept to HVM release
- Ensures product design compliance to all applicable technical standards, specifications, and requirements
- Develops test plans and facilitates testing according to industry standards and engineering best practices
- Thoroughly and precisely documents all engineering activities according to E-DAPTIVE standard processes
- Follows data-driven methodology to inform design and investigative efforts, utilizing the full engineering toolkit
- Accurately maintains all product CAD models, drawings, BOMs, calculations, and analyses
- Drives the engineering change management process as the design stage lead for all assigned programs
- Supports the Field Service team with legacy product troubleshooting and root cause investigations
Skills and Specifications
- Effectively communicates engineering concepts to both technical and non-technical personnel
- Demonstrates strong individual work ethic and a passion for team achievement
- Agile to meet shifting program demands in a startup / small company environment
- Willing to take on a wide variety of responsibilities as needed to ensure program success
- Proficient in CAD design work, preferably one of the following platforms: Onshape, Solidworks
- Proficient in applying ASTM drafting standards and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Capable to perform basic structural, thermal, and/or fluid analysis (FEA, CFD) using engineering software
- Knowledgeable of DFx best practices for assembly, manufacturing, service, cost, and quality
- Knowledgeable of engineering root cause analysis methodologies, including FMEA and 8D
- Knowledgeable of engineering design of experiments (DOE) methodology and applications
- Experience using basic machining and assembly tools to build proofs-of-concept and/or prototypes
Required Education and Qualifications
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited college (Master’s degree is a plus)
- 3-5 years mechanical and/or design engineering experience in a manufacturing environment
- Or equivalent combination of experience
Preferred Education and Qualifications
- Experience designing packaged electronic and/or mechanical systems, ideally for use in heavy equipment
- Experience designing thermal management systems (conduction, forced convection, and/or liquid cooling)
- Experience designing products for rugged environments (shock/vibration, hazardous area, submersible, etc.)
- Knowledgeable of industry-standard lithium-ion battery system technologies and design elements
Physical Requirements
Typical physical requirements for this role may include the following:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- May be asked to lift up to 50 lbs. at times
- Frequently work near moving mechanical parts
- Exposed to quiet to medium noise levels in a manufacturing environment
- Exposure to high voltage systems
- Travel, up to 15%
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Anticipated hybrid schedule if based in Austin is onsite Tues/Thurs, with the option to be either onsite or remote Mon/Wed/Fri.
Office environment with some shop environment exposure. Shop environment may not have air conditioning. Moderate Travel may be required during certain periods, including overseas.
