Medical Assistant

Western NC Community Health Services (WNCCHS) is a Federally Qualified Health Center. We are seeking a full-time Medical Assistant to work collaboratively as an active member of the interdisciplinary team to provide patient-centered care across the continuum. If you are not certified, we have a path to help you achieve certification in medical assisting.
RESPONSIBILIES: Includes but not limited to the following:
- Perform clinical duties under the direction of a physician, nurse practitioner, or registered nurse
- Set up medical examination rooms
- Obtain vital signs
- Prepare patients for exams and assist providers during exams
- Prepare patient charts for providers
- Obtain EKG’s, assist with wound care and minor surgical procedures e.g., removal of benign cyst
- Review patient registries and identify the patients preventative care needs
- Assist in preventive care outreach initiatives
- Assist in obtaining medical records
- Perform patient screening procedures, e.g. PHQ-9
- Prepare sterile fields
- Perform phlebotomy, and process specimens for patients of all ages
- Prepare and administer medications and vaccines
- Serve as a preceptor for new staff
- Provide occasional coverage support for other WNCCHS ambulatory offices, or the mobile unit
- Assist in administrative duties as needed, including handling calls
- Participates in process improvement of new and existing workflows
- Actively embraces and supports organizational initiatives
- Supports pop-up vaccine and testing events
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience documenting patient care in an electronic health record
- One year as Medical Assistant in an outpatient health care setting
- Certified Medical Assistant is preferred
- Current Basic Life Support Certificate, required
- Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred
