The Children's Clinic is actively seeking a Medical Billing Specialist to join the team at our Tualatin, Oregon location. This position is full time, M-F 8:30 AM to 5PM.
***This is a fully remote position after on-site training has been completed at our Tualatin location.***

You are: A compassionate medical professional who can work efficiently and effectively with the pediatric patient/parent population while communicating respectfully with people of varied cultures, ethnicities, and educational and socioeconomic backgrounds. As an expert in medical billing/ patient financial services, you will have the opportunity to provide input and insight into creating change, improving the process, and reshaping the way our patient care is delivered.
You will: Provide data entry functions and will be responsible for the follow-up execution of the claims process. Ensure timely and accurate tracking of payments, denials, overpayments, underpayments, and adjustments on patient’s current/outstanding accounts receivables via phone and or electronic contact with the payer.
Primary responsibilities include, but not limited to:
- Follow Up: Investigates, resolves, and processes claim denials, correcting denied claims and resubmitting according to insurance company guidelines.
- Payment Posting: Receives and posts payments and adjustments accurately and timely. Accurate adjustment and denial reasons are included in the account. Assures that non-contracted adjustments are not accepted.
- Customer Service: Responds to and research patient inquiries regarding accounts, providing superior customer service at every interaction. Accounts are notated thoroughly.
- Insurance Eligibility: Verifies insurance eligibility prior to the patient’s appointment. Calls are made to the insurance companies to verify eligibility when unable to verify online. Requests updated insurance information from guarantors and notify the guarantor of the required deposit for patients with no verified insurance. Verifies CCO assignment for all OHP patients.
- Collections: Identifies and monitors overdue accounts, reviewing and researching accounts prior to adding to collections queue. Works with families by offering payment options and following up on each account. Assigns account to outside collections when appropriate.
- Billing: Electronic and hard copy billing is done accurately and timely. Claims are reviewed for accuracy and chart notes are attached when appropriate. Rejected claims are worked daily and claims are rebilled timely.
- Overpayments: Overpayments and refunds are appropriately processed and applied to patient accounts.
- Scanning: Scanning is done timely and accurately. Batches are easy to read, find, and are indexed appropriately

What you'll need:
- Comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology and basic ICD-10-CM/CPT coding principles as well as standard financial office practices and procedures. Ability to handle large volumes of work within prescribed time frames.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong customer service orientation, and ability to work as a team member. Must possess a strong drive for responsibility, and task completion.
- Previous experience in a medical billing setting; EPIC experience a plus!
