ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Staff and document minutes of Medical Staff department and committee meetings.
2. Coordinate special and ad hoc Medical Staff meetings.
3. Assists in preparation of Credentialing Committee agendas and presentations, if assigned.
4. Prepare and forward department and committee meeting action items for assigned meetings.
5. Prepare and send department and committee meeting follow-up correspondence for assigned meetings.
6. Prepare administrative reports (i.e. governing board) and rosters, as needed.
7. Participate in maintenance of Medical Staff files and filing.
8. Assists in development of forms and desk procedures required to operationalize departmental goals and objectives.
9. Maintaining a working knowledge of the Medical Staff self-governance documents and applicable Hospital policies to assist the Medical Staff in its compliance with stated parameters.
10. Familiarity with the current Joint Commission standards, State and Federal Law pertaining to the Medical Staff and applying them as needed.
11. Assisting the department director in the management of the FPPE and OPPE processes.
12. If assigned, communicate with physicians to keep their files current.
13. If assigned, handle correspondence regarding Medical Staff activities and appointment status with physicians' and allied health professionals’ offices.
14. If assigned, ensure licensure, legal documentation and any special certifications are current for credentialing and privileging purposes.
15. If assigned, utilizing an approved detailed checklist, reviews credentialing and reappointment applications and files for completeness.
16. If required, contacts providers or groups for additional information as needed.
17. Assisting the department director with all Medical Staff requirements and maintains records and systems that result in efficient program operation.
18. Other duties as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
A. Education
- Associate Degree required. Bachelor’s Degree preferred. In lieu of degree, a minimum of ten years experience as a Medical Staff Coordinator or a Credentialing Coordinator, to include at least five years of department and/or committee meeting management, may be considered. Committee meeting management must extend beyond Interdisciplinary Practice Committee and Credentials Committee meetings.
B. Qualifications/Experience
- Three (3) current and consecutive years of experience in Medical Staff meeting management and/or credentialing and privileging experience in a hospital or managed care setting.
- Preferred Certification: Through the National Association of Medical Staff Services, Certified Professional Medical Services Management (CPMSM®); Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS®)
C. Special Skills/Knowledge
- Proven competency in building effective working relationships with physicians and hospital staff;
- Effective communication skills required to communicate verbally and in writing in a clear and concise manner with physicians, administration, staff and the public so as to maintain positive and productive relationships across the organization;
- Demonstrated ability to manage a high number of demands and simultaneous priorities;
- Demonstrated computer proficiency, e.g., Microsoft Office;
- Demonstrated ability to function independently with minimal direct supervision
