Medical Technologist (MT, MLS, MLT)

We are looking for talented professionals to join our Laboratory to perform Immunology, Endocrinology and Hematology laboratory tests of moderate and high complexity and prepares records and reports test results. Maintains instruments, equipment, and supplies.

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • Formal educational background in biology, chemistry, hematology, immunology meeting regulatory requirements for testing; normally acquired through completion of a two year post-secondary school program in clinical laboratory technology or related four year degree (i.e. Biology, Chemistry).
  • Associates degree as Clinical/Medical Laboratory Tech (MLT), preferred.
  • Immunology, Chemistry (Endocrinology), and Hematology experience strongly recommended
  • ASCP Certified or working towards certification required

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL

Medical Technologist or Medical Lab Scientist (MT or MLS):

  • Bachelor’s degree and appropriate certification by a nationally recognized program, e.g. ASCP or equivalent
  • Previous experience as a Medical Technologist in a hospital-based clinical laboratory setting preferred.

Medical Lab Technician (MLT):

  • Associate Degree, or equivalent in a Laboratory Science, or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution.
  • ASCP medical laboratory technician certification preferred.
  • Previous work as a medical laboratory technician in a hospital based clinical laboratory preferred.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Prepares specimens and performs laboratory tests of moderate and high complexity as defined in laboratory procedures manual.
  • Reports the results of each test and related test data by entering information in computer database.
  • Evaluates specimen adequacy for test performance; obtains specimens for quantitative and qualitative analyses.
  • Reviews/verifies test results, recognizes and follows through on abnormal/unusual results and communicates same to appropriate personnel. Accurately completes all required documentation.
  • Performs routine and specialized testing in assigned area. Confirms abnormal results and specimen discrepancies and institutes correct follow-up procedures.
  • Performs and documents daily quality control and quality assurance measures to assure that tolerance limits are not exceeded. Advises supervisor of quality assurance/quality control problems. Evaluates proficiency testing materials as required.
  • Analyzes technical problems pertaining to collection of specimen, laboratory data and instrumentation. Determines cause and rectifies problems in accordance with guidelines and procedures.
  • Calibrates instruments. Performs and documents preventive and corrective maintenance on equipment and instruments. Recognizes sources of repair and maintains appropriate documentation.
  • Cleans instruments and equipment as needed following each test.
  • Performs maintenance and minor repairs to instruments and equipment.
  • Participates in continuing education by attending relevant workshops, in-services, or town meetings to accumulate documented CE hours/year.
  • Keeps work area in a clean and organized manner at all times in keeping with the lean standards as designed. Decontaminates counter surfaces, instruments, computers, telephones and general work area according to laboratory protocol.
  • Provides technical advice and support to other laboratory personnel as required.
  • Informs next shift of pertinent information to maintain efficient operation.
  • Demonstrates simple/complex troubleshooting skills and adheres to QC and maintenance schedule.
  • Performs all duties according to the standard work procedure.
  • Maintains adequate reagents/supplies in the work area and/or on the instruments to avoid delay in sample processing.

Job Type: Part-time – 24 hours per week

Schedule: Day shift / Night shift

Primary Location: Nava Health Labs, 9755 Patuxent Woods Drive, Suite 100, Columbia MD 21045.

Rate: $30 - $35

Education:

  • Associate or B.S. (Preferred)

Experience:

  • MT/MLT: 2 year (Preferred)

License/Certification:

  • ASCP Certification (Preferred)
