We are seeking an ambitious, results driven sales professional to promote the positive aspects of Chamber membership and secure new member, sponsorship and advertising revenue while also enhancing relations with current members and investors. The successful candidate must be a willing and highly motivated prospector who possess excellent sales and communication skills. Factors for success in this key external-facing role include self-motivation, the ability to build relationships, time management, and drive to achieve established selling goals.

Principal Accountabilities:

Membership, Sponsorship and Advertising Sales

Assures the goals set for new member, sponsorship and advertising revenue are met or exceeded via individual sales efforts targeted to those who may benefit from Chamber membership.

  • Utilizes the Chamber’s standardized recruiting and selling processes to meet or exceed revenue goals.
  • Identify prospective businesses and organizations throughout Southwest Riverside for use as sales leads.
  • Connect with prospective members and investors through initial telephone and personal contact to establish positive relationships with executive leaders.
  • Assess prospective member needs and motivations and make connections to the Chamber programs and resources that correlate to their organizational objectives.
  • Responsible for maintaining a daily sales activity average of 20 telephone call attempts per day.
  • The member relations manager may be called upon, and would definitely find it advantageous, to attend APEC events and functions for recruitment purposes.

Member Retention

Drives member retention by maintaining positive and professional relationships so that members see value and continue renewing each year, especially those whom the incumbent has recruited.

  • Lead and fulfill membership retention efforts including annual membership renewal invoicing, payment reminders, follow up, and dues collection.
  • Oversee enrollment of new members and completion of new member welcome tasks.
  • Conduct new member follow up calls to provide support and answer any questions they may have about the Chamber.
  • Conduct relations calls and educate current members on the benefits of APEC membership to ensure that their needs are being met.
  • Serve as the broker between members and Chamber leadership and staff to achieve desired outcomes and drive retention goals.
  • Actively upsell membership, sponsorships, and advertising to drive new revenue and deeper member engagement.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Minimum education, experience, technical and communication skill levels, licenses, and certificates normally required to perform the duties of this position.

  • 3+ years’ experience in a business development, sales, fundraising, or industry environment are a must.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in business related field is a plus.
  • Existing connections to business leaders throughout Southwest Riverside is a plus.
  • Self-starter with demonstrated skills in taking initiative, problem-solving, negotiating and driving results.
  • A firm grasp of core sales competencies including developing prospecting lists, managing data, and following through to close sales.
  • Aptitude for working with volunteers and building relationships at all levels of an organization.
  • Capable to work in a fast-paced team environment to leverage diverse skill sets to achieve common goals.
  • Available to work a flexible schedule as needed.
  • Required to have reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and must be insured.

Working Conditions:

  • Positions in this class typically require reaching, typing, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, sitting for extended periods of time, standing for extended periods of time and repetitive motions in computer use.
  • Speaking in front of small, medium, and large groups.
  • Occasional bending and lifting up to twenty-five pounds.
