They are also known as school aides, teacher assistants, instructional aides, one-to-one aides, and more.

Responsibilities

• Reading stories to children and talking to the children about what happened
• Assisting children in activities designed by the reading specialists
• Providing individual help and attention where needed
• Interacting verbally with children on a one-to-one and small group basis
• Assisting the teacher in production of learning materials and in clerical duties
• Correcting pupil work and workbooks noting special areas of weakness to which teacher attention should be directed
• Assisting children in activities such as previously explained paperwork, listening post activities and microcomputer drill
• Providing individual instructional help for the disadvantaged child in the proper use of the library and supplemental reading books
• Providing aid to small groups of students in reinforcement activities

Qualifications

• Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree or Teacher Certification
• Standard clearances and health forms will be required before hire
