General Statement of Duties


To assist the principal in the planning and implementation of the school program including the supervision and evaluation of teachers and staff and monitoring student discipline.

239-day contract plus Opportunity School stipend.

Starting in the 2023-24 school year, Henrico County Public Schools will designate select schools with high rates of vacant positions and provisionally licensed staff as Opportunity Schools through the HCPS Career Ladder. This is a new pathway within the Career Ladder through which entire schools, selected by HCPS, receive compensation supplements, additional staffing resources and specialized professional learning.

Ability to plan, organize and deliver instruction to meet individual and group needs utilizing state guidelines and division curriculum.

Exhibits considerable knowledge of learning theory and best practices.

Acts in the best interests of students and models appropriate behaviors in all professional interactions.



Essential Duties
Performs duties assigned at the discretion of the building principal
Observes and evaluates instructional personnel
Observes and evaluates classified personnel (i.e., maintenance, custodial, cafeteria)
Assists with the development and monitoring of the School Quality Plan and aligns to the division Strategic Plan
Knowledgeable with the IEP and 504 process and may serve as the administrator overseeing IEP and 504 meetings
Plans and conducts professional learning
Monitors and works with student discipline following the Code of Conduct
Secures substitutes when needed
Assigns duties (i.e., bus, cafeteria, etc.)
Supervises specific academic programs assigned by principal in school
Supervises athletic events (if secondary)
Supervises assemblies, and plans and supervises other school programs as assigned (i.e., pictures, guest speakers, etc.)
Works with counselors in management of student records
Works with Master Schedule and scheduling classes
Works with bus schedules
Ensures safety and cleanliness of school building
Available for programs and duties outside of the regular school day
Works with total school staff and Central Office staff in implementing school program
Works with parents regarding individual students and/or school program
Works with school community in building school culture and climate
Abides by adopted board of education policies and procedures
Attends work daily and is engaged in job responsibilities
- Performs other duties as assigned

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The employee should have an extensive knowledge of curriculum and instruction, theory and practices of management and supervision. Above average oral and written communication skills are essential. Strong evidence of leadership abilities and well-developed intra- and inter-personal skills. Sound judgment and decision-making skills are mandatory.





Minimum Qualifications


Post-Graduate Professional license, with an endorsement in Administration and Supervision is required. Master’s degree from an accredited institution. Leadership qualities and personal characteristics are necessary for working effectively with the community representing the school division. A minimum of three years of experience as a teacher, administrator, or supervisor at the level to be supervised. Demonstrated knowledge of curriculum and instruction, theory and practices of discipline, and personnel evaluation theory and practice. Must be able to communicate with diverse groups in both written and oral forms.
