Akima is looking for a General Manager to support a fast-growing business unit and its operating entities.
We are seeking a General Manager for the Mission Systems, Engineering & Technology (MSET) business who will be responsible for company’s P&L, strategic & operational leadership, and the development of business opportunities and growth for the Company. An ideal candidate is an ethical, growth-oriented leader with strong financial acumen who has demonstrated success in building winning organizations with a reputation for exceptional service in the federal market.
In this position you will:
- Ensure alignment of the initial strategy, delivery, and operations with a repeatable process, and employ company standard tools including artifacts and surveys, to support the business unit and operating company objectives
- Drive results for all activities that lead to company growth. Support growth initiatives that maintain or achieve a leading position in each capability pillar and client markets with appropriate technical expertise, understanding of cost/pricing and capability/client expansion strategy. Align resources and internal processes to facilitate agile and cost-effective growth activities with high return-on-investment
- Driving and monitoring the company’s performance against the annual Revenue / financial targets. Maximize profitability by implementing programs that optimize service and management efficiency
- Participate in strategic planning along with the Business Unit leadership to ensure the direction of the business is appropriate and positioned to achieve its goals and objectives
- Preserving strong beneficial relationships and meeting commitments in all dealings with primes, subcontractors, and teaming partners
- Allocating time and resources to initiatives focused on improving employee morale and job satisfaction with the objective of improving retention of employees
- Maintaining or enhancing customer satisfaction levels (as measured by CPARs and other quality assurance surveys, including use of company-initiated customer satisfaction inquiries)
- Ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures including safety, quality control, human resources, labor relations, ethics, finance and purchasing, business development, and legal
- Allocating resources, providing technical and management oversight, conducting monthly and quarterly project reviews, and resolving issues at the project, program, operating company and group level in working with the business unit / executive leadership
- Liaise with the business unit leadership, as well as with employees to communicate company priorities, ensure routine communication of company-level requirements, data calls, and news. Help communicate, implement, and/or monitor progress of corporate initiatives
- Ensure effective utilization and management of corporate services and business systems to support day to day company operation and ensure operational effectiveness
- Acting as a role model and creating a positive work environment that fosters ethical behavior, outstanding performance, and commitment to the Company
- Other administrative and programmatic duties as required
Minimum Qualifications:
The successful candidate will possess the following expertise and attributes:
- Bachelor's degree required. An MBA or relevant advanced degree is desirable
- Must have an Active DoD Top Secret Clearance & ability to maintain it
- A minimum of 10 years’ experience in federal contract, project, and program portfolio management
- Experience building and running companies or business units within a large enterprise
- In-depth understanding of the corporate operations ecosystem and stakeholder activities. Understanding of the federal and state regulations and compliance requirements (i.e. SCA, CBA, tax laws) relevant to project transition, onboarding, planning, and operations
- Experience managing Information Technology, Engineering, or other technical programs
- Strong understanding of P&L, financial and contractual compliance in government contracting environment
- Strong people / personnel management experience: exceeding 100+ FTEs in geographically disparate locations
- Executive presence with business savvy: multitask and effectively interface with senior executive members of the Government and industry
- Superior management skills: ability to influence and engage direct and indirect reports and peers
- Exceptional written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills
- Some travel required
- You must be able to meet all health requirements, including but not limited to, current and future vaccination requirements for infectious diseases such as COVID-19
- Experience with Small Business and Contracting mechanisms specific to Small Disadvantaged Business (ANC, NHO, 8a) community.
