Position: Museum Guide
FLSA: Non-Exempt
Status: Part-Time
Reports to: Executive Director
General Summary:
This role is responsible for providing tours, educating and answering questions to visitors of the history of the National Shrine of Our Lady of La Leche at Mission Nombre de Dios.
**This position is for 2 days per week, 8 hours per day. Starting rate of pay is $10.00/hr.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensures a high-level of professionalism and hospitality permeates the National Shrine campus at every touch-point and leads by example for all volunteers, knowing that developing long-lasting relationships with guests are critical to the success of the National Shrine.
- Greets and interacts with visitors at the Shrine & Mission Museum and Shrine Church. Opens and securely closes museum and church during normal operating hours.
- Assists in securing volunteers for the various shifts at the museum and church.
- Conducts visitor tours of the Museum, Shrine and grounds.
- Ensures handouts are available in the Shrine and Museum.
- Cleans and organizes the Church: straighten pews, missals and song books; picks up litter in pews or on floor; cleans doors from fingerprints and scuff marks.
- Cleans and organizes the Museum: checks lights in cases; dusts cases; checks bathrooms; cleans doors from fingerprints or scuff marks.
- Notifies director of any problems, issues or concerns; notifies maintenance of any mechanical issues.
- Records visitor count and donations on deposit drop slip, submitting donations to gift shop for deposit.
- Assists with volunteer recruitment, as directed, including working extra days or hours for special events.
- Assists working at the Shrine Kiosk when needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
- Ability to respect and value the cultural richness that makes up the Church and society. Strives to celebrate commonalities and differences among various groups, with a high focus on making people feel welcome.
- Ability to clearly communicate information; ability to read and comprehend various documents. Must be dependable and reliable.
- Ability to present to groups of 35-40 people.
- Must be proficient in computer skills, typing and utilizing MS Office suite of products; use of Internet/Intranet.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Prior tour guide or museum experience a plus.
- High school diploma or GED.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, vendors, employees, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
